Will a 2000 1.0 replace my 1996 1.0

I found a 1.0 out of a 2000 Metro with 81K miles on it with compression of 180,180,180. Would this be a good replacement for my tired 1996 1.0 It's local with a 90 day warranty for $450

Hmm, compresion is good, should be 170 to 200. 81k is alot of miles for it's age, which probably means highway driven, which is better than city driven, but it is still alot of miles. JDM engines are advertised to be under 50k, and you should be able to pick one up for 300 to 400 dollars.

the standard compression should be 199 psi and i agree that is a lot of miles for it, also chevy took over the metro in i beleive 97 or 98 so they might have changed some sensors or other options which might cause conflicts with the transplant, it might be more effective to do an overhaul the kits for the engine are real cheap if you do it yourself other wise i think i priced it around $200 before but kind of rusty. hope this helps good luck :)

Well if the body is in good condition get a JDM low mileage engine around $400 with 40 - 50K miles on it and enjoy another 100K or more out of your Geo it will be a wise economical decision to since inthe summer the price of gas is expected to jump to $3 or more. http://www.jdm.net/

Well I did the 2000 engine swap to my 1996 and she purrs like a kitten. Went driving all day today to see what kind of mileage I would get at it came in at exactly 50 mpg. I was only getting 35 with the old engine that had 236000 miles on it and compression of 145-60-100 (dont even know why she was running with that kind of compression, but she was. Sure enough the center exhust valve was toast. I installed new timing belt and clutch so I should be good to go.

if you see this message, did you encounter any specific problems during the engine swap? I'm thinking about plugging a late-model low-mileage engine into my '97.

The only issue I had was the exhust manifold on the newer engine didnt match up but the old one did so I just swapped them. Other then that no real issues. Good Luck!
