normally, my engine idels really loud, and hurts small dogs ears. I put some diesel fuel injection cleaner into my 300d t-diesel and its ideling allot quieter. is this a sign of a problem or does this sound normal? iv noticed a decrease in start time and an increase in miles per gallon (running around 36 i believe). thanks.

I knew a guy that had a 90's MB diesel, his idled loudly also, said he never had a problem with it. I've also heard a lot of them at stoplights. I think it's the nature of the beast.
-edit- and if the fuel injector cleaner is bumping up your mileage, :bigthumb:

This happens frequently and is quite normal. It does not mean there is anything wrong with your diesel.
Most diesel mechanics I have known strongly believe you should add some injector cleaner regularly. Try adding some every 5th to 10th tankful.

Sorry for reving an old topic. I thought I would post another question here rather than spamming the database.
Recently its turned cold. While the engine is warming, the idle sounds diffrent. The clanking sound was replaced by a clucking sound, if that makes sense. Someone told me its because the oil hasnt warmed to engine tempature. Is this correct? Nothing to worry about I assume.

As long as you've got the correct weight of oil in there for the ambient temperature, you should be ok.
You might get more play on your question if you did start a new thread; this is a good question and I wouldn't consider it to be clutter!
