I have an 88 jeep cL streight six that will run great for a couple of days, weeks or just minutes and then just dies on me. The speed, temp. nor rpm seem to make a diff. I do seem to loose spark from the coil when this happens. Also the battery is now shot so I am just running life support to it till I can figure this out and buy a new battery.
Any help or ideas would be very helpfull and appreciated, thanks !!

I'd start with the battery first. If it won't hold a charge, it will make you lose power. Lights will dim, radio will cut off and check engine light will come on. Have it tested along with the alternator. If you run a bad battery too long, you may burn out your alternator.

I will put a new battery on and make sure the alt. is good - however when all this was good it still just died on me, it may start back up and run good and sometimes it wont start at all.

I would start with the Crank position sensor. This will cuase the jeep to lose spark and stall and/or to not start. These are only about $50-60. The connector for the CPS is on the drivers side near the firewall. It runs down behind the engine. The CPS is located on the bell housing at about the 10 o'clock position. It is hard to get to it to replace it, but it can be done.
