Alright i'm having the worst problem ever with the radio, it started about 6-8 months ago and it wont go away, i havent used the radio since it started beacuse of it.

When i turn the radio on (Car on or off!) it immediately start making this piercing noise which is deafening, i can't stand it. But before I say anything else I'm gonna say what I have done, yesterday I decided to buy a CD player for it and install it, i did and i hooked it up, popped a cd in, and NO sound came out of the cd player, so i switched it to radio, (POWER ANTENNA), as soon as the antenna started to go up the loud peircing noise started again, and i could hear the radio music. So now this makes no sense, i can hear sound on the radio, but when it's switched to CD there is absolutely no noise..

So my question is, where is the peircing noise coming from? It happens whether the car is on or just electrically on, and the sound is completely blocked off when the antenna is down (or so it seems). And i just don't know what to do now. ANY knowledge of the fix would be nice. Thanks again.

I meant if the car is off engine wise, like electrically on, i've put cd players in over 17 cars, i know how to wire and do it, i jsut want to get rid of this louse noise, speakers don't work unless radio is on either, i'm thinkin something is crossed witht he antenna or the ground is off or really bad

I assume you disconnected the new cd player to see if that was causing the problem.

it did it on both the stock radio and the new cd player

is it possible that you are using un-shielded spark plugs, and or un-shielded spark plug wires? if the note of the screech changes pitch relative with the engine being revved up, this is likely the cause. many older cars do not have shielded wires and plugs if they didnt come stock w/ a radio.

I have heard of distributors causing it too. I dont know how you can insulate it though.

They obviously didn't read the line that you said it does it whether the car is running or not. First thing I'd do is take an ohm meter and check the resistance of all the speakers where they connect to the cd player and make sure all of them are good. If they all test good check the power and ground and ignition wire to make sure the ground is good and 12v is coming from the power and ignition wire. If all that checks out the next thing I'd check is the ground for the power ant. it may have a good enough ground for the ant. to work but not good enough to fully cancel all the noise.
