I'm about to inherit a '94 LT1 from my dad. Does anyone have any tips on keeping it in good running condition? The previous owner never told us if the engine was rebuilt or not, but it now has over 150,000 miles and it still runs like a top and i've never seen it drip a spot of oil. I'm only 18 and the insurance on this would be cheaper than on my '89 crown victoria, but I've heard alot of bad stuff from people, saying that camaro's constantly break, tune-ups and tires are expensive, etc. Overall it would be a good used car, better than my ford that has almost 170,000 miles, and it would probably last until I turn 21 and my insurance drops enough for me to afford a new car =P

Anyone have any tips on how to keep a camaro in good working order so I don't have to shell out all of my money on parts and labor?

First thing would be 2 tune it up and go from there.

First off, the reason why people say tires dont last is because many people with Camaros peel out on em.. so just dont do burnouts and you'll be fine and keep your foot off the petal so you dont spin em.. other than that I would start by working on a regular tune up to keep it in shape..

actually they say tires are expensive because Z28's use Z rated tires

just keep up with the routine maintenance and it'll be fine.

The mechanic I was at told me I'm gonna need a new compressor soon, it's all ran on the same belt so it would be wise to get that fixed, right?

only need to replace it if you plan on using the a/c.

i am just going to take my whole a/c system off. but if you live somewhere where it is hot, it is your best friend.

meh, do an A/C conversion to the 2/90 system, 2 windows down @ 90mph, it's a Z28 :D

No oil leaks" You sure there's still oil in it :dunno:

Seriously tho, small block chevy motors are notrious leakers at front and rear main seals. As for constant parts needed, well, that's all on you, again, it's a Z28, it consumes you, then you find yourself pushing it a little harder than you would (with a big ol grin on your face), but when things are pushed hard, things break, laws of physics at work. This hold especially true on the tire issue.

Now, the bad news, personally kid, the crown vickie would be the wiser investment in my opinion. Let's face it, cops and old older folks drive em, why? Because they last and last. My daily driver is a Buick for that very same reason and it has never failed me since ressurecting it from the dead 7 years ago. So if one of my kids were your age and heading off to collage or something and I had to front the cash for the car, they'd be coming home with the vickie.

Yeah, my dad was tellin' me that back in the 90's when he had his 89 iroc and was making like $5 an hour it was screwing up all his money everytime he had to fix something on it or buy tires because he sold it, he had a house and a kid and everything. but a big difference is i'm making $400 a week, i pay no rent and i save every dime and i play with the stock market, and i'm going to community college on the side. working for rockwell collins is nice, but i figure i could just drive the camaro and save up and end up buying a new one when they come out. plus investing in the stock market is always good :)
