3000 GT's VR4 vs SL

I was heading back to work on lunch Friday and I was at a light waiting when I see this Red 2nd gen SL take a right onto the road across from me. Well I was heading that way so now I am eager to go, love to see other 3K's cause no one on the boards lives here. Well he takes off like any of us would and is over a block away when the light changed, but no cars were in between us, so I look for cops and play catch up, doesnt take too long. I stay on him wondering his plans, i want to race him for a little fun, well we are almost to the next light and I am turning left there so i signal and this prompts him to hook in to the turn lane. Well we sit there waiting and the light changes and he goes and I follow but I move into the left lane and he in the right.

I look over and see tint but I give the standard nod for lets go, I hear his exhaust and some WOT and I drop gears, he is already a car ahead because my transmission has some sort of bumpers inside that make quick shifts take more precision and more strength. Anyway I think this gave him the feel he was winning because once I hit second and got on it I was on him in no time. I pulled fast up next to him gave him a rev as I held close then went wide open up to 7500rpm and let off as I shifted to 3rd.

I then changed to the right to get ready for my turn and noticed him still trying to catch up, so I swung the turn at about 45 and gave a good bolt to put some space before he passed the turn, to my surprise he turned as well. I come up to a light and he gets into the turn lane and rolls down his window to talk.

him "I dont want to race again man"
me "I dont blame you"
him "is that really a turbo"
me "yeah"
HORN HONKING BEHIND ME
me "gotta move man, check out 3si.org" (I need to get some 3si.org fliers, maybe include automotive forums too.)

I think the spoiler and the VR4 gave me away because the active aero didnt turn off until the light when he came up to the turn.

I also raced a Bronco... Dude raced ahead from one light, I came up and he switched to the right lane to get side by side. Looked like a total greaser, hair all slicked and semi spiked backwards, he keeps revving and has his foot on the brake and his wheels start spinning. I laugh and the light changes... Needless to say by the time he broke loose it was already over.

Around here its a college town, mostly punky ricers, even my Fiance smokes them for fun (in my car of course)

Nice double kill if you including the Bronco too...lol. If you live in a college town there are sure to be plenty of people to race. I personally dont but whenever I do there are so many riced hondas, V6 stangs, etc it almost makes you sick.

i hate where i live, it's all riced out skyline's, fairlady's, civic's, and a couple type r integra's, 3kgt's, and rsx's, i think i'm the only american car here, there's a major japanese car importer on the edge of town, so 90% of the cars i race are riced out imports with the steering wheel on the wrong side lol

I've never seen a skyline on the road ever. I would think they would be kind of expensive for ricers to get a hold of. Mabye not?

Way to go, you beat up on the younger brother. Nah, jk, good race I guess, but he was doomed from the beginning.

$6,000 for a 90 gt-r, about $3,500 - $4,000 for a 90 gts-t, i priced a couple out back in the day, the most expensive one i found was $14,000 for a 1990 gt-r with 620 hp and the dyno sheets to prove it, but skyline's are EVERYWHERE here lol, i see atleast 2 or 3 different one's every time i leave the house

were do you live?? a skyline gtr is not the easiest thing to rice out.
a wing wouldnt be rice, decal is opinionated...what was rice about it??
same with the fairlady's

and chrisgood, how are you revving to 7500rpm's????

Fuzzy_C
03-29-2006, 09:16 PM
every skyline i see has a big ass aluminium wing, a set of aftermarket rims, a body kit, or atleast part of one, diff front bumper or something, and that big old fart can muffler, some have underglow and other stuff, but every one i see has the rims and stuff, and i live about 30 km outside of edmonton, i'm from canada eh

From what I've read, I would love to have a skyline GTr though that could be hard since there are practitcally none here. Are they only RHD? I think that would be kind of bad ass.

Fuzzy_C
03-29-2006, 09:24 PM
ya, they're RHD cause they come right from japan, but you can get them changed to LHD, probly costs alot though

rims is not rice, body kits are not rice, the wing is needed!!

your not mentioning rice to me, your mentioning style(in some's opinion)

rice is a attitude, the car is fast, its a performer, so if they want to make it look different or nicer, then so be it, that doesnt make it rice

Fuzzy_C
03-29-2006, 10:48 PM
rice to me is taking a stock car and puttin the same amount of money they spent on the damn thing just on making it look fast and sounding like me on the toilet after 6 bowls of chilie, and not putting a cent into anything that actually makes the car work or perform any better.

youngvr4
03-29-2006, 10:52 PM
if the car already performs like a champ, then why not spend 2 grand to make a 40,000 dollar car look a little better??

bodykit paint job rims and a wing is not even 1/6th of the amount of that car

now if he put spinners on it, then he's rice

VR43000GT
03-29-2006, 10:58 PM
^^ I agree. If your pleased with how your car performs then put some aftermarket visuals into it to make it look like a high end car (as long as it still has a clean look to it).

one kid has a set of $20 spinner hub caps from walmart on his lol, and those things are worth 40k new? no wonder everybody's buying the damn things, i just hate to see these kids spend around $7000 on a good condition gt-r, then blow like 4k on stupid looking crap, neon lights and shiney rims, they could have a beast if they put that where it actually counts, soooo much potential, all thrown away

youngvr4
03-29-2006, 11:28 PM
lol trust me, i know were your coming from

but usally when you see a skyline, its modded, the exhaust you see is hp gain

in stock form its as fast as a 03 cobra
would it be rice for a cobra to have some nice rims and a saleen bodykit?
not at all, its already a performer.

but those who are all show no go, and at the same time, think there fast. that is RICE!!

what if i answered yes to this question lol, although it wouldn't technically be rice since it's a domestic, i call domestic ricer's salad's lol, cause they're all just shit without the dressing, call their owners salad tosser's lol.

but anyway, i see where your coming from, i've just heard too many 16 year olds in skyline's say things like "oh, this new front bumper reduces drag and adds downforce better then that guy's, i noticed the car performed 10 times better after i had it put on" and "these tires and rims aren't stock size, so i'm going faster then my speedometer says, it gives me an advantage when i race" or my personal favroite "man, i noticed such a difference after i had that performance muffler put on"

i swear if i hear that muffler line one more time i'm gonna punch somebody lol, kid's today just don't understand that your not gonna get a huge performance boost by putting a big fart can with a 1.5 inch inlet and 3.5 inch outlet on the end of your stock exhaust pipe, but i've yet to find one that hasn't apparently noticed a huge amazing difference.

youngvr4
03-30-2006, 03:51 AM
 damn, its pretty bad were your at

around here we still call domestics rice, as i stated before its a attitude, nothing racist.

but yeah if you got people saying that were your at, you got some nice sized ricers on your hands

I wasnt revving to 7500 I revved to get his attention then went wide open and hit about 7500. I know because I glanced to see speed, cause I normally dont go WOT, and wanted to see what it topped at in 2nd, I didnt catch the speed but I saw the red and shifted and let up.

I'm sure the 3kgt can rev faster than 7k. Unless it has a rev limiter which I'm not sure if it does. And if it does you can get that removed. Although I wouldnt see any point in that unless you had it cammed out which I dont think you can even do in a 3S.

youngvr4

it has a rev limiter, you cant take it past, i thought 7000rpm's
my car ;imits is 7000rpm

yeah i even didn't think it was possible to make a RB26DETT sound bad ( GTR engine) and these cars gains redicious powers from a full exhuast. they gain similar power to a supra TT, and a full turbo back exhuast is known to give 40whp minimum with dyno sheets to prove it.

also a stock GTR exhuast is not 1.5 inches, that would be stupid for a 2.6 liter twin turboed engine to come with a exhuast that small.

well if what you say is true, i think your just not looking hard enough at what the car's really got, and your just basing rice off your biased opinion.

a GTR with less then $3000 in mods can run 12.0 in the 1/4, all they need is a boost controller, boost cut defensor, intake, and full turbo back and a damn good driver to hit 12.0 at almost 120mph. those "riced GTR's" probrably has those mods atleast cause its almost impossible to find a stock GTR so they usually import them with atleast bolt ons, so those exhuast that you see probrably are 3 inch or 4 inch exhuast from teh turbo back that cost over $1000, they just happen to come with the car when they bought it.

Damn Canadians, ya'll actually get to have the R32/33/34 Skyline and ya'll are messing them up, I feel sorry for Godzilla, he could do so much better down here with us.

BTW, do you think this is rice??

It has a big ass wing, shiny aftermarket rims and decals all over the place.

^i think that skyline needs a lower back bumper

but...yeah, Fuzzy_C, everyone has different opinion on what rice really is, this brings back the old topic "what really is rice?" there's a couple threads already on this subject and they all end up with "it differs from person to person, community to community, etc etc"
