1999 Jetta Electrical Problems

Hello, i recently purchased a 99 Jetta GLS and have been having various random electrical problems.

First, my speedometer randomly stops working or will bounce from 0 mph to however fast I'm driving

Second, my fuel gauge doesn't read how hot my engine is, it stays all the way on cool and rarely goes to the half way point. (which is where it should normally be, once I my car is warmed up, I believe)

Third, when I start the car is almost turns off the second it starts, like it barely has enough power to start or something.

My engine runs good for the most part, will randomly surge and jump when the speedometer isn't working. I know it's some sort of electrical issue, PLEASE HELP!

1- soundsl like either your speedometer vehicle speed sensor is bad or the plastic ring on the differential is broke.

2- ect (coolant temp sensor) common problem on theese

look in the search for previous posts on theese

Hi, I have the same problem, but on a VR6. The additional interesting fact I've noticed is that when the speedometer starts working, the doors lock automatically, as opposed to moments when the speedometer doesn't work and they no longer lock by themselves when I start driving. i would have it's some circuit problem; am I right?

I am a novice, so please be descriptive. Thanks!

This fourth generation jettas have a device that automatically lock the doors at 10mph. That is the reason why they didn't lock when the speedometer doesn't work
