i just bought a airmass thundermuff muffler for my 95 dx. if i'm right, my car has a muffler that is in two stages, in stock form. there's the one that's the actual muffler, at the back of the car, and then there's another one, right behind the catilytic converter. this new muffler is not the entire catback setup, just the actual muffler itself. when i get it installed, should i leave the thing right behind the cat. converter in, or should i buy some exhaust piping and have them take it out?

Your best bet would be to get your entire exhaust system repiped to 2.25". Your exhaust works like this: Coming out of the head of the engine, it flow into your exhaust manifold (header). From there, it flows into your resonator, or pre-muffler. After that, it goes into your muffler, if which you purchased a new one. So when you get it installed, have them replace the piping and the resonator with 2.25". It's the only way to make your muffler worth while. Good luck.

Like Si2000 explained, that thing behind your cat is called a resonator. It is used to quiet the exhast before it even reaches the primary muffler. I had a 2.25' magnaflow cat-back ( straight through muffler ) installed with a resonator. After a month, I decided I didn't like how quiet it was so I removed the resonator. I couldn't believe so much of a difference it made. The car reved quicker, seemed to have more power at high rpm, and sounded much better. ( louder ). My advise would be to remove the resonator, you will not regret it.

despite the advice i've been given, i put it on with the resonator. the only real reason that i did it this way was cost. i saved a ton of money, plus it's nice to know that i can always go louder if i wanted to. the only thing is, i don't think i'd want to. this this is really loud. i'll drive through town and i can hear it resonating off buildings, plus i also have to watch out for bacon. but thanks for all the advice. i appreciate it
