stunt bike

im looking for a good bike to thrash on, for wheelies, endos, crashing. i found an 88 suzuki katana 600 for about $1000. its a bit on the heavy side, being so old but after stripping it down i could shave some pounds. if any one has any experince in this field, your input would be appreciated. how big of a sprocket to use, etc.

Drill holes every 1/4" in the frame. That'll lighten it up.

Do the same with your helmet. I don't think it will make any difference to you....

Sorry, that was mean. If off-street, I can dig it. Problem is, I've never seen anyone who could resist clowning on the road once they get good at it.

I have a love/hate relationship with sport bikers...I'm fascinated by what they can make the bikes do, but cringe at what they do to the sport's image and everybody else's insurance premiums...people see one Hayabusa pass them on one wheel at 80 mph, and figure we all act like that.

But to your point, I used to have property (200+ acres) and would buy $500 cars just to drift and jump them, then send them into the ravine when they got too tired to go on... so I can understand what you've got in mind :grinyes:

Look into the naked sv650's. They can be found cheap, are twins, crash well, and are light weight.

I don't think that old Katana is going to have enough to do what you have in mind. I would look into an older cbr, ninja, gsxr, etc. Unless you shed a ton of weight, it wont do what your after plus it didnt make the power to begin with so your behind the eight ball right off the bat...just my opinion. Ive got a Katana and have nothing against them, just dont think itll work in that application.

What about a Bandit, Nighthawk, etc?

no problem. i have two kids and would like to come home to them every day thats my deterant. i also work for a living and cant afford to wipeout my daily driver. ya i know the katana isn't the ideal bike it was just a thought. a twin would be the best for torque. i like hawks a buddy has one but wants to much for it and would probably cry when i drop it. i'll look into a sv650. its a bit longer than a cbr or gsxr isnt it. do you guys know if you change both sprockets or just the back and how many tooth more i should go. unless there are sprockets specifically for this purpose. a cbr 600 or gsxr 750 would be alright to but people want to much for them. unless i can find one thats already in bad shape or was written off.

Yea...youre after an older one thats got miles or has already beend ropped i think. The bodywork isnt that important im guessing...you should be able to find an older gsxr or something that fits that bill...especially if you wait a little while here for season to start back up and the wrecks start rolling in :-p

I'm not sure about the sprockets...I thought you replaced both as a rule of thumb period so the sprockets should come in a pair even when changing the ratios. The nighthawks and twin heads have torque but I still think youre going to have to stick with the standard sportbike base for your goal here...happier for the money spent. Probably going to have to look for a while for a deal that isnt a trashed/junk bike. Those other bikes Im pretty sure are heavier and as you said stretched out more...making it that much harder to pop that wheelie.

To be honest Ive never been much of a stunter as I care about every bike Ive had and dont want to smash it into a pole or drop it in general. Im going based solely on numbers and weight ratios...specs and what most stunters seem to have...

i found a 93gixxer 750, that had been dropped and wasnt running the owner said the carbs just needed to be rebuilt or cleaned. for 1200 but he had already sold it. your probably right about changing the sprockets. im no stunter either just thought about trying it something different for the weekends. if it doesnt work out i might just use the bike for track days. i have an 04 cbr600rr and its my daily driver, year round so i dont want to use that. waiting for a couple wrecks in the off season might be the best bet.

You see that video with Christian Pfeiffer on the Ducati (Monster, I think) doing all that crazy shit? That guy is the king.

its funny you mention him i just saw his video the other day. he's pretty impressive, and i do think its a monster. the tubular frame gives it away but aside from that it doesnt resemble one anymore. must be nice to have the money to bag on a ducati.

if it's in ur budget, a crash cage would be a good investment. about bikes, just got to be a bit patient if ur looking for something else, i sold my 97 gsxr 750 for 1400 and all it need was a clutch. however, if ur going to get sprockets, i think that katana wouldn't have too much of a problem. good luck man.

ya, i wont be getting the katana. the crash cage, is that the bar that runs under the bike and connects at the frame sliders or is there more to it.

this is a 905 crash cage on an 05 ZX6R.
