back in feb. of 2004, my father purchased for me a nineteen eighty-nine chevy cavalier with 126,000 miles on it. i've since replaced numerous parts.
all 4 tires
catalytic converter
oxysensor
spark plugs
a few hoses
oil and filter a few times
pops paid 350 for the car.... what the hell did i throw all this money into... :frown:
NOW.... i may or may not need a new water pump.. and if its not the water pump then its a new head gasket.
SEE.... the car was overheating... so i added coolant which it was devoid of... then discoverd the busted hoses... which i replaced... then it still overheated... so now people tell me water pump or head gasket.. water pump is 23 bucks + labor so i'm going in that direction because the HG is 300 to get changed.. and thats bargain driveway prices..
anybody care to comment?

I'd have your head pressure checked first, and your water pump. Also make sure you thermy, and rad is all good. I good flush will help out as well. But shit I had a collant problem for over a month and then the air pocket that was in it finally worked itself out. Now i do one of those nice little collant sucker things. work wonders

I can't remember what they are called, but you put it on the collant tank and then use an air compressor to suck all teh collant out of the car and the hoses actually suck down, then you close the valve and if the system fills back up with air then you have a leak, if it doesn't then you connect a line full of collant to the sucker thingy and realise the valve and it pushes all teh collant into the system with 0 air. it's neat thingy to have

IT WASN'T OVERHEATING, BRAKE FLUID SPILLED ALL THROUGHOUT MY INSIDES CUZ DADDY LEFT A BOTTLE UNDER THE HOOD. IT WAS JUST A BUSTED HOSE SPRAYING COOLANT AND BRAKE FLUID FROM THE BOTTLE BURNING OFF THAT MADE THE SMOKE AND SMELL.
now i can sell that bitch with a clear conscience.
