My car EXPLODED!

So i'm sitting at a light on one of the busiest intersections in our town, coming back from a friend's house. I had just done roughly 15 - 20 miles on the highway at about 85ish. Sitting, waiting for the damn light to turn green, and my car starts vibrating violently... "wtf is this shit!?" i look at my revs, less then 1000 revs, almost at zero... "fuck." look at my temperature, its shooting WAY up there past the red rectangle... "fuck fuck." look over at my hood, and see smoke just beginning to pour out... "fffffag-a-licious." so there I am, waiting for the light to green so i can pull over in a parking lot and take a look, but the damn light, it just stays red forever! so i'm sitting there, and my next 60 seconds involved me being worried, to blowing a load, to being fucked i the asshole.
first 30 seconds; waiting... waiting... waiting..
next 15 seconds; yellow Lambo Murcielago FIRES past me on the opposite side... oh, it was beautiful... and the noise!!
last 15 seconds; waiting... engine stops... light turns green.
So there i am, the first car at the light, with a looong ass line of cranky middle-aged men coming home from a crappy NYC commute which probably involved several road-rage related homocides on the way behind me honking their horn like they Just saw Jessica Alba take off her top. Flick on my hazards, tell the fuckers to start giong around, and try starting her up again... wouldn't turn over. sat there a little bit, flicked off the white-collared jewbags who "gave me the look" in their pompous 911s and CLKs. (my town is full of rich jewish people who drive only porsche's and benz's. its sooo boring.) eventually, after about 2 minutes tops, i tried again, and it started, and let me go about 30 feet to the nearest parking lot. opened the hood, and (although i suspected as much) was surprised at the sight. My coolant had exploded all over the place. one might say my coolant started leaking, and there was a hole in the pipe, but that would be a gross understatement. This shit was in places i dind't know it can reach, and the lasceration in the pipe was gaping wider than your homeboy's girl.
Well, don't blame the car. i love it too much, it didn't meant to die. Sure, it's got 200k+ miles on it, 14 years old, shitty condition, but i can tell you know, this was my fault.
This morning, i reach class 30 minutes early (i commute to college), so i figure i'd take a nap. Throw on some Chili Peppers, turn on the AC, so leave the engine running, and pass out... Woke up 3 and a half hours later. missed pretty much all my classes, oh well. i think that's what fucked it up... i think. w/e, it'll be all fixed by tomorrow latest. :smokin:

Nothing a little duct tape can't fix.
But seriously, good luck getting that fixed up/getting a new car/whatever you're gonna do.

It's nothing major, it just happened in the worst possible way. but the coolant had deriously gone all over the place. I've had coolant leak from our van b4, but this was the first time in my p.o.s. civic, and it made quite a show of it.
Nothing a little duct tape can't fix.
exactly!
Atleast it didnt go up in a firey blaze.
No, but that's how i'd like to go, i've decided. but atleast in a respectable car. not a civic.

Ferrari is my dream car, but i'd much rather go in a classic muscle, like a 71 challenger r/t, for example, on a desert highway. i dunno, some kind of automotive romance to it.

My first car suffered the same fate, but I was driving down the highway at the time, it was a 83 1.3l ford laser!

You may have blown the head gasket. Might want to run a chemical check on your coolant.

I did :frown: ... Mech is quoting atleast $700 for repairs, and my car really isn't even worth more than 5. i was reallly hoping it was just s simple pipe rupture and coolant leak... now i'm actually pissed/sad.
wow... i need a job again, ASAP.
plus, he said there was extensive wear on my engine that didn't look normal. he doubted that leaving my car on at idle for 3 hours could have caused this. maybe it contributed, but didn't cause it. When i start my car, it had ben dropping revs below 1000 for atleast 2 weeks now, staying down there for about 5 seconds, before idling back at 1500 to 2000. he said that was the first signs that something might have been wrong, and should have come earlier. i guess so. anyway, does a $700 quote sound right?

I have barely enough money left in my account, so i'll have to sell all my audio equipment that i put my soul into to raise enough money to make atleast one down payment. but, atleast i get a new car... no time soon, though. speaking of which, i have school tomorrow, and i commute... looks like i'll have to rely on public transportation :disappoin
i've never bought a car, even a used one. i'm kinda overwhelmed with finances right now cuz i just had to pay for this semester's tuition. i have NO credit, so i'm not sure what to do. where can i go to read up on advise about financing a new car?

wish it were that easy. we need 3 cars in the family. my parents both work, and i commute to school. I can't take a bus because of timing (earliest bus going to my college comes too late.) I'm at class right now, my father was able to drive me to his work, and i took his car from there, but its a real inconvenience for the both of us. I'm in the process of selling some of my things to get some extra $ in to start paying for another car, or atleast to fix the Honda again. We don't have a choice, we need 3 cars, especially if i'm going to be working again.

UPDATE: I'm really lucky; an old friend of my father's from The Bronx agreed to do the job for $125 today, and $125 when he comes back (2 day job), + the cost of parts. not bad. My dad decided he'd pay for me, as long as i pay him back soon, which i plan on. (anyone interested in 2 12" Eclipse Subs? Brand New!)
So he was here today, took apart the motor and took it home with him to clean it up and put on the new gasket. He's even gonna repaint my valve cover, that's nice. so he'll get back next sunday, so i'm without a car for 1 week, but i'm not complaining, i'm getting my car back for only $400. He'll bring a diagnostics computer to find out why my engine overheated in the first place, and caused the pressure to blow the gasket. the thermostat is brand new, so i doubt it was that, but we'll see.
anyway, took some pics of where we've left off.

Well, i've gotten it fixed. $400 + parts, came out to about $500. New head gasket, valve gasket, valve cover, spark plugs, plus a completely reconditioned head (sanded, cleaned, new seals, gaskets, etc.) Here are some pics:

^the head looking brand new (completely reconditioned)
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d164/vinnym86/04-09-06_1335.jpg
^finished product.
the car runs a lot smoother now, very very lucky to have gotten all that done very cheap. my dad had to cover me, though, so i have to pay him back soon. i've applied to a couple places, but i'm still selling my subs, if anyone is still interested. It's posted in the for sale subforum in 'cars in general', selling them $100 each. great deal, cuz they're still brand new. I looked in Car Domain, same subs going for $170.
anyway, hopefully i'll have the job soon, maybe i'll be able to keep the subs afterall.
