Renault Espace jammed bonnet

I have an N reg Espace and can't open the bonnet...it feels as if the release cable has either stretched or broken. I need to get into the bonnet to check oil & water before we take a long drive...on Thursday 29th...Can any one advise me of a way of openning the bonnet if I have an emergency.
