2001 Audi A6 - Valve Cover Gasket Leak

I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.8L (FWD) with 44,000 miles. A check was done at the Audi dealer and they noted the following:
"Inspection noted oil leak at valve cover gasket and cam tensioner seals - more so on the right side performed system check with 5051 - no codes present OBD II status passed."
Dealer Repair Estimate: $1,250.00
Regarding this ambiguous oil leak (it is only on the right side and there were no codes present to indicate a problem (Conclusion: it does not affect the engine performance)??), I am sure this is probably 3X what it would normally cost to replace a valve cover gasket at a non-dealer mechanic, and I am wondering if it really needs to be done. I have had a valve related oil leak on my 99 Passat 2.8L for 3 years as told to me by the Audi/VW mechanic I go to when I got the timing belt replaced and chose not to get it fixed as it was not major and not worth the money, in my opinion, and it actually has never caused a problem since. Personally, I am skeptical about such leaks as pointed out by mechanics, dealers, etc., especially with a vehicle of this low mileage.
Anybody have experience or opinions on this issue? Greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Recommend searching Audiworld.com forums.
2.8L is famous there for this type of leak and the $1200 quote is based on removal of cams to replace the seal. The seals can be replaced without removal by using a special tool instead. You just have to be careful when doing so and making sure that you don't overstress the tensioners.
When doing the seals it's also best to replace the suction pump (again search audiworld) at the same time as it has been identified as a possible cause for pressure buildup in the crankcase and thereby forcing oil out of seals/gaskets.

I'm having the same trouble on my 1998 2.8L A6. I've just purchased a service manual in the hopes that it may help me solve the issue but it has as of yet not arrived and i was wondering if some of you knowledgable gents might be able to direct me to some instruction on how to fix this problem. I've been told that i'll have to replace gaskets and not simply reseal them. is this true?
Thanks for all the Help.
