Is it necessary to change transmission fluid often? I use my mini van to tow a 16-ft boat once in awhile and I noticed that the color of the transmission fluid is pretty dark color.

I just talked to the mechanic and he said if I have not changed the transmission fluid since the car is new (2000) and 60,000 mls, it's better to leave it alone ..
Then I went to another garage and this guy said I should change the fluid .
So who should I believe?

Just change it. You said you already have 60k on teh car, so it's time. I personally do mine every 40k or so.
