Is your battery bolted down? Make sure battery cables are clean and tight and are not contacting anyhting when the car moves. Try starting the car let it idle and open the hood. Give it a wiggle test. Grab different wiring harnesses one at a time and give them a good wiggle. Start with the battery cables. See if something makes the car die. I have heard a similar story to yours and it turned out that the battery would actually shift in the tray and contact the body when the car made a right turn.

It's a 98 Malibu , last night after work started fine, my co worker , pulled the throttle cable and the car died, then he tapped the fuel adjuster( not sure that's right its on top of the engine car started but the theft system light remained on for the trip home , this morning car did'nt start tried tapping the fuel deal but nothing it just cranks but if I were to jump it, it starts could this be a sign of the fuel pump or battery, I did'nt hear the whirring sound for the fuel pump this morning?

check the fuel pressure. at idle it should be 48 psi and steady, and while purging the gauge it should be able to maintain 30psi at idle while dumping fuel directly from the fuel rail

Check your gas cap ( sub a different one ) . The check engine light in OBDII cars means only one thing, the gas cap is off or not working. Now the MIL light is a different matter if that is what is coming on.

I have the same problem 98 Malibu. I am starting to think the security system is malfunctioning and cutting off the gas flow. It stalls out when I go down hills or make turns, started happening on I-95 and when the engine dies so does the steering so be careful.. scary.
I've had some kind of timer changed and that seemed to help it for a few months, but it just started back up again. Now it will crank, and either die when I put it into gear or drive fine and then randomly stall out, but it usually cranks right back up no problem. The gas light tends to come on with the battery light when it stalls out, not sure if that is normal or not.. Is there some way to deactivate that theft system??
