Help - gas smell in oil, color is cream.

Ok here is the situation the car sat without being started for 4months , the battery was dead, i put in a new battery and i also put in new spark plugs and wires and did an oil change. the old oil which sat for 4months was very creamy in color and a bit thick, so i emptied that old oil and flushed with clean oil then put in a new oil filter and new oil. the car starts up fine and runs fine as before however i can smell gas OUTSIDE the car not inside only when the car is running and from the exuast pipes. i did the oil change 2 days ago and the new oil on the dipstick has a faint gas smell to it now. any ideas? more info needed please tell me. also the air filter is perfectly clear, and all the fluids are good.

Try a bottle of injector cleaner, kinda sounds like you have an injector or two that are sticking open. Thats the only logical reason I can come up with why you got gas in your oil after sitting for 4 months, but it seems like that would have had to happen before you parked it for it to happen. Some of the guys around here swear by having the injectors professionaly cleaned, if the injector cleaner helps i'd look into having that done.

Anyone else think im on the right path? Any better ideas? I was thinking fuel pressure regulator, but that would only leak gas into the vacume line right?

i will go buy a bottle of injector cleaner and put that in the car tonight when should i notice an improvment if that is the problem? thanks for the help. i will update often! also how much does it cost to have a professional clean the injectors?

It could also be dried out valve seals, especially where the car has sat. My first concern would be where did the water in the oil come from. Are you having any coolant issues? Run some seafoam in the oil then change it again, see if it keeps happening. As for the professional injector cleaner, try the injector cleaner first (like you said you are doing), however, it might take more than one application to cure the problem. Good luck.

a car just sitting will get some gummy fuel in the lines and injectors, which can cause them to stick open.
Try a tank or two of gas w/injector cleaner and see how it does.
Also make double sure thiers no fuel leaking onto the engine, or you'll hav more problems from a fire, thats no goood!

If the injectors are stuck open will it show up on an ohms test of the injectors, or will they read ok even though they are stuck open? I don't know enough about injectors to completely understand what doing an ohms test tests. Just thinking that may narrow down the bad injector(s).

ok here is the latest, i bought 2 bottles of injector cleaner (good sale) and i will use them as per instructions, so far no change. the new oil is almost normal in clean oil color but a slight hint of the cream color coming back, the smell of gas is faint but still there on the oil. i have looked all over the engine compartment and cant see any sign of any fuel leakage, nor under the car. would a hole somewhere in the exaust system or muffler cause a smell from behind the car? i will post more updates. thanks to everyone for the advice.

to check the back 3 plugs are a pain, but if at this point you think its smart to check them i will go ahead and do that? and by check you mean remove the plug correct not just the boot? Thanks for your advice.

If you are still getting a bunch of the creamy stuff in the oil, you just might hav a gasket leaking fuel/coolant into the oil.
But oil does hav a hint of fuel smell over time of use. Maybe its just condinsation from siting.

I'm not sure exactly what the resistance is on those MT1 injectors, a parts store should hav that info at hand.

Just keep an eye on the coolant in your oil.

sounds like it sat just a bit too long and the seals are dryed out not a good thing

sounds like you have a lower intake gasket that is bad, or possibly a head gasket.

xoroniox, the oil will hav a slight smell of fuel when you change it.
As the fuels bunred the rings lube the cylinder walls and all the fuel deposits that are/arent burned, get pulled into the oil.
But a car sitting for a long period might hav more fuel smell.
Hopfully you dont hav leaking gaskets, that always sucks!
