i am helping a friend install a disturbed disturbator in a 1991 chevy silverado 350. according to the repair book it says to align the pre drilled indent hole on the disturbator shaft with the painted white line on the shaft housing. i cannot find the white line and i was wondering how i can set it in. i already have the number 1 cylnder on TDC and just need to get the disturbator in correctly.

You just drop the housing in with the rotor lined up with the #1 terminal on cap (actually you put rotor a little to counterclockwise so when it meshes with the drive gear it will rotote into place) the dist. should have a notch on the outer edge under cap. This is #1 (usally about 5 o clock postion). make sure you are at TDC power stroke and not 180 degree off at intake stroke.

Your oil pump drive may be off 90 degrees you will have to put a long flat head screw driver down in the distributor hole and turn it a quarter of a turn.

if you are sure that the engine is at TDC (compression stroke)....then install the distributor where it sits down square in the hole and flush with the top of the intake. THe rotor cap has to be pointing toward the #1 cylinder on the distirbutor cap, you may have to resort to using a large flat tip screw driver to move the oil pump shaft to get it to align with the distributor. It really can be a royal pain in the ass. It does not have to be exact but it needs to be very close... then set your base timting. It the truck starts but pops (backfires) through the intake, timing is off (start over). You might as well crawl in the engine bay so that you can see the oil pump shaft alignment.

Every time I've had mine out on my 92, its been a royal pain in the ass to get it back. It does not take much movement at all on the shaft to cause a mis-alignment.
