You cant get any codes? Is code 12 comming up, or is there nothing, or do you not know how to bring up the codes?

Take your ignition module off and have it and the coils tested. You can check the coils yourself but will need to take the module to Advance, Napa or most any good parts stores. My dad's 89 had the module fail around a year ago. Had random starts then did as yours.

might be the timing chain slippedI have a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 2.8L with the same problem and I have a rebuilt engine in mine and i checked the timing chain on mine and the timing marks line up perfectly. Trust me, your timing chain has not slipped. I think the car is having a problem with coil selection and i'm trying a few things to see if i can fix my problem.
