Ford or Chevy Cargo Van

I want t buy a late model, used Chevy of Ford diesel cargo van. We would be using this mostly to travel and pull a 20 ft travel trailer. I have heard that Ford went from a 7.3 to a 6 leeter diesel in '03. Can anyone give me some advice on what to buy?
