different motors and setups.

there are many different emotor arrangments the i4, v5, i6, v6, v8 (i8?). (not to mention the opposed or "opsed" motors like the boxter motors, and what subaru runs)

which type do you guys like best? this is a preference thing. but i like i4's because they have come a long way in many years. they are light. they have as many upgrades as many of the larger motors ( i actually think you can do more w/ a i4 then a v6 or i6) although i do love the "lope" you can give the larger motors. i just like to tune my car to put down the larger displacement cars, and its not like i get humiliated when i lose.

Well, mine's not a turbo, but it'd still be a good match for a stock ZX2.

i dont even think ild call it a match. the 2.5 is a nice power plant. subaru has a good set up goin for them. better then my ford.

I dunno. The 2.5 N/A is a nice motor indeed, but the 2.5 RS weighs almost 3000 pounds, and AWD hurts more than it helps when you only have 166 horsepower. I think it'd be a good race.

well, there is no "V5", such an engine would be horribly unbalanced and vibrate ridiculously.

5 cylinder engines are I-5's.

My favorite engine layouts are V8 and V10.

Realistically this is a really hard to say "oh, I like V10s" or "I like V8s" when they are all so different. Compare the V10 in the BMW E60 M5 to the V10 in the Dodge Viper SRT-10. They both produce about 500hp, but other then horsepower output and number of cylinders, these two engines couldn't be more different. The SRT-10 uses a massive pushrod 8.3L at a relatively low 9.6:1 compression ratio and it only revs to about 6,000rpms. The M5 uses a higher tech (Vanos), higher compression (12.0:1), smaller displacement engine (5.0L) that revs to 8250rpms. The two engines are so incredibly different its not even funny. The M5's engine has more in common with the I4 in the S2000 then the SRT-10.

I really like the high compression/high revving NA engines that you get from Honda, BMW, and Ferrari. So I like the I4 from the S2000 and RSX-S, the I6 in the E46 M3, and the V10 in the M5/M6. Hopefully I'll get to check out the V8 in the F430 and the V12 in the upcoming 599GTB sooner or later.

i prefer a nice V6 or L6. they're good for decent low end grunt and good top end power and are able to be efficient on gas. you don't really have to make any big sacrifices anywhere, like most v8's you sacrifice gas mileage, I4's you usually sacrifice low end power, of course there are always exceptions. i like I6's also

so what's the thing that VW use in the cars with the V5 badge?

Volkswagen's new five-cylinder engine is an I5, not a V5. Think about it: in a V5 configuration, where would the extra cylinder go? The engine would be way out of balance.

I agree with DinanM3....anything that sounds like an F1 car gives me a hard on.
