:banghead: Why would I have to pump the gas to get the car started in the morning. I adjusted the choke.. cleaned the carburetor ... and changed the fuel filter. The car runs fine and starts up without a problem once the engine has warmed up. But when I go to crank it up in the morning... It won't start unless I pump the gas. What could this be? Thanks for the help. 5.0, 305

Choke adjustment if it won't stay running until you gun it a few times -
Carbureted cars don't start right up after sitting overnight (and getting overnight cold). The gasoline in the carburetor passages, as well as in the intake (vapor), tend to dissipate after a few hours. It's easy to forget this in today's world of electronic fuel injection. A good tuneup involving new plugs, cap, wires, rotor and all filters will help with cold starts, but you will never have it fire instantly after overnight sitting with a carb.

Well I figured that by pumping so much gas into the carb... that I could possibly run the risk of damageing something else. But thank you so much for that answer.

The fuel bowl is emptying overnight/extended periods. You have to pump it, then crank, pump some more, then crank.
The rest of your starts should be fine.

You should have to pump the gas twice to get the car to start. this refills the carb w/ gas, and engages the choke. you probly wont flood it unless you pump a lot, like 10 or more times before cranking.

It doesn't refill the carb, only the fuel pump can do that - what it DOES do is spray liquid gasoline from the bowl - through the accelerator pump - along with some vapors into the intake, which should be sufficient to start the engine.
