Tire size advice

87 2.5ltr Cherokee (310Km's) , really starting to show its age so it'll be used for highway and aroud town only. Have to replace tires and am currently running 235/75/R15 Tire rack says original size was 195/75/R15.
They will see moderate snow and no off road use, any recommendations as to pro's / con's of the mentioned sizes or other alternatives.

You should be fine with 235s or anything smaller. Im not sure I agree with Tire Rack. I though the smallest tire that came on an XJ was 205s but I admit that Im not that familiar with the older ones. Personally I would go with 215s or 225s and for the use and situation you mention, I would shop around on the net or the paper for a good set of used tires. You should be able to find a set of low mileage takeoffs, where someone went to larger tires, with lots of tread left for maybe half the price of new ones or less

The 4 liter Jeeps came with optional 225/75-15.
Stock is 215/75-15 with the steel wheel.
I am using 235/75-15, but if you have a 2.5L 4 banger you will loose some acceleration and the speedometer will be off slightly.
Any larger, well there is not enough engine to turn 'em.

Do you have the 6 inch wide or 7 inch wide wheel?

I am not sure on the correct tire size but I would recommend Cooper AT's as the tire. I have them on my 97 GC and a set on my 02 Yukon XL. The ones on the Yukon XL have over 50k miles on them. They are pretty quiet and smooth on the highway and have never failed me off road...and they are a decent looking tire.

BTW I have a friend who owns a tire store and he said it is best to buy tires in the fall instead of the spring...that you will get many more miles on them because the first five thousand miles in hot weather are way harder on the new tires...I had never heard that before last week. I'll bet he doesn't tell all his customers that! :)

Ever since an unfortunate accident while off roading which resulted in a bent drive shaft and inverted leaf springs (Don't Ask). i have decided to keep my jeep as a mainly on road vehicle untill i can afford to get a new one thats better suited for the off roading industry. any way to the point, i am runing p235 75 R15 Brigestone Dulers A/T Revo and they seem to ride great on the road with very little noise and they also look pretty good
