me vs. wrx/ me vs. mr2

So I went to a car meet in worcestor, MA yesterday. I went up with a heavily modified wrx, and a wrx with just exhaust and short throw. So on the way home i get lined up with the non-heavily modified wrx at a red light, so i look at my buddy and go "see you at the next stop-light." Light goes green, i get a little wheelspin, pull about a half a car, and then his turbo kicks in and we even out. This went on through three gears and we cut it off at 90, where we were still dead even. Very good race.
Later on that night some kid in a loud ass 89ish mr2 pulls a U-turn and gets behind me on at a single red light, so immediately I'm thinking, oh boy here we go. So light turns green we both take a left, and he floors it past me, so i floor it and he just keeps pulling. Then we pull up to a light and this is what happens.
"hey, what's done to that thing?" - me
"nothin." - wierd mr2 owner
"...." - me
"yo, you got a gsr, let's race" - wierd mr2 owner
"....." - me
So the light turns green and we go. That mfer had like 2.5 cars in first gear on me, then i started to gain and by 65 we were even, when i shifted into third i just walked him pretty hard. We pull even and discuss.
"What the hell do you have in that thing?" - me
"Intake and Exhaust, stock 1.6" - him
"You gotta be shitting me." - me
"You got some pretty good top end" - him
"Yeah, I'm supercharged. 6psi." - me
"supercharged gsr!?" - him
"yep, be safe man" - me confused out of my mind how a stock 1.6 pulled on me like that

He obviously had the supercharged MR2. When they came out they were the fastest cars from 0-30mph. Definitely dangerous from a dig, but have little, to no, top end. Good kill.

how come neither of you guys never heard eachothers supercharger?

This kid had like a straight pipe on the car, it was blaring loud, and all i could hear was my supercharger, barely over his exhaust though

Nice races.
That WRX driver obviously could not drive. Must have bogged his launch to have to catch up off the line.

i think he was probably just taking it easy on his car for the launch, he definetly didnt rev up to like 4000 and drop the clutch or anything like that though, thats for sure

Well...if you slip the clutch with a 4krpm launch, it's still pretty safe on the tranny. To have boost lag in first gear is pretty weak driving skills. WRX's are bloody fast in first.

maybe my buddy isn't the best driver but would you really expect a turbo to be as responsive as a supercharger, given the fact that i only had a little wheelspin? but maybe you misunderstood me, when i said half a car i meant his headlights where at the back of my front door, and by the end of first our noses were even.

So I went to a car meet in worcestor, MA
My dad went to college there. I almost went to college there. I can all but promise you we are the only two people here that can pronounce Worcestor properly.
Good kills too. Always fun to get a nice, close race.

Would you really expect a FWD with a bit of wheelspin to beat a AWD off the line?
It's not that I don't believe you beat him off the line, I've seen and bogged my own wrx, and when they do, they feel like hyunda excels driven by grannies. He didn't drive it well on that run, that's all I'm saying.
And what's this got to do with responsiveness of turboes? if it's manual it's not even a factor.

You cheated, but yeah, it sounds like wooster. But in true Bostonian speak, you turn the er into ah. So while its pronounced wooster propperly, it sounds like woostah.

Not, but it's easy to bog. Especially in the case of his friend who was babying his tranny.

When i used to go to the track NA i would run 2.2x 60ft, and now I've got 6 instant psi aka no lag, i expect to be seeing some 60 ft times in the 2.1x region. I mean i know there is a bog and then there is a 5k clutch drop with an AWD drive vehicle, but you seem to be neglecting the in between. I mean come on, give credit when it's due, just because he didn't drop the clutch you're saying I might as well have been racing a slow pos.
WRX's are bloody fast in first.
Yea, so is my car, a saturn, a dirtbike.... whats your point

Who said clutch dropping is the quickest way to launch AWD?
And why are u so hung up on the fact that your supercharger doesn't lag? Neither does a turbo!! Turbo lag is not an issue for dragging a WRX! An even avg driver will know to launch it where it's not laggy, as low as even 3500rpm :p, and then keep it in the boost range when shifting. I have no idea why you keep dringing up boost lag?
Dude, I don't care how good drivere you are, your car is a 6PSI S/C'd Integra, there is no way you can even out launch an avg driven WRX. 2.1 60 foot it NOT gonna beat a WRX off the line when the avg time for a WRX is 2.0. Click (http://www.scoobymile.com/index.php?mile_search=&mile_search_type=&mile_max_results=100&mile_sort=&mile_search_results=200) if you look at the times for the avg wrx i.e. 1/4 mile in the mid 14s are, most of the 60 ft are in the 2.0 region.
Can I reiterate one more time, I'm not trying to take your victory away from you, anything can happen in racing and this time you beat him, good job. I'm not even going down the BS path of saying IF he launched properly IF IF IF IF IF... ALL I'm saying is, this WRx either bogged or got a crappy launch. Even you said he was babying his tranny....are you really satisfied in taking such victory? Are you really gonna be able to claim u can outlaunch a wrx?
I'm just simply pointing out to you that he got a crappy launch. You do what you want with that information.

Well, then my car is just faster, because every time i shifted he would fall back, and then pull back up, must not have been the turbo-lag, i was just faster is all. I'm not claiming I've outlaunched a WRX, I have... end of story. Will it ever happen again, who knows. I've actually never launched an awd vehicle, I only know what i hear, and that is they are not wicked easy to launch. Oh well, we will just take that out of the equation next time and race from a roll. Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen a vid of an evo cutting a 1.6 60' by dropping the clutch. Which would make it the fastest way to launch AWD.

If you race him from a roll you'll probably beat him....wrx's are dogs from a roll (exaggerated a bit)
Just because you saw ONE evo launch a 1.6 60' by dropping the clutch does not mean it's the fastest way to launch an AWD. That evo cuold have been running 500whp on slicks. There are way too many variables to be claiming something like that. Most AWD cars do not run enough power for you to side step the clutch and not bog, even at high rpms. That's why most AWD owners will tell you they slip it for a tiny bit before they let the clutch out. This way is also better on the tranny.
And AWD is the easiest to launch simply because you don't have to worry about wheelspin (of course, unless u running crazy power). So all you gotta think about is launching in good boost range. Whereas on top of that with FWD and RWD you gotta think about wheelspin and forego some power and launch at a lower rev to negate massive wheelspin.
So congrats on beating the WRX, i really mean that. But just keep in mind this is a sick wrx with a case of bad driver.
