Need help with a painting problem

Ok.....its time to help the PMan :(
The TypeR is being painted and is coming along well apart from one small problem with the interior that has me guessing what the heck is going on.
The molding of the interior is white and needs to be painted black. So it was sanded/washed and primmed with Tamiya Primmer and left to dry for a few days in the oven bake.
Today when i went to spray the Tamiya flat black on, all hell has broken out, but only in patch's. The paint goes on nice but after 30-45 minutes it has gone "wrinklie"looking in only a few place and soaked almost right into the plastic. Done it in 3 places on the floor and a bigger area up on the back window shelf which sticks out likes dogs balls.
Now its not the paint as its the same cans i've used on my last 3 models, and its not a reaction to the two paints as it would be all over the whole interior.
So far its had 5 coats of paint and does the same thing every time :( :(
I'm starting to wonder if its something in the plastic :confused: :confused:
Only thing i can think of is stripping it all back and starting again

I cant seem to think why it just soaks into the plastic. Never struck this before :( :( :( .

:confused: :confused: The only thing that came to my mind was that you left it in the baking oven for too long....

This MIGHT have caused patches of the primer to lose their protective ability...as a result the Tamiya flat black dissolved right through to the plastic...

I'd definitely recommend stripping and repainting..

Thanks...but it shouldn't have been that as all the other parts like seats etc went in and have been painted OK

My guess is that the pigment and solution of the primer was not evenly mixed, then the solution of black affected the primer somehow. If the first few coats of black was sprayed lightly, it could have prevented. But usually, you wouldn't expect the primer to react that way, so that was unavoidable, I think. If affected areas can be sanded, you can apply light coats of primer, then spray black. If the spot is too coarse, I think stripping the paint is the fastest and easiest way.

Sounds like time for some serious window tint to me! :D Honestly I'm stumped on this one...seems like the primer wouldn't lay smooth if it were something with the plastic....but very odd it only occurs in a couple of spots.....yup, window tint time!!

Thanks for some of the help so far guys. I left it for 4 hours and tried one more coat of paint but it done the same. So i've stripped it all of and starting again :(
The paint has been removed, sanded again and primmed. Taking it to work tonight to harden the paint and will paint it again tomorrow.
I keep you posted as this has got me interested as to what the heck is going on.

Yep...the first pic. But also underneath it you can see where the paint has soaked into the plastic

I always brush paint my interior and it look pretty nice.

Repainted it today and it has come out looking fine...problem fixed.
Still dont know what caused it though:confused:

If it was like the first pic i would imagine it was caused by non uniform drying within the paint film.
This may have resulted from:
Excessive film thickness.
Insufficient drying time between coats, forced drying, non uniform air temperature.


Was anything different with your oven?

Paints wierd though - I had a similar problem on a test plastic body with halfords primer and tamiya ts-50 - it looked almost like there was wax or something in spots and the paint simply ran away from these areas. I did what u did - stripped tried again and it was ok - maybe it was grease or somethin - sweaty hands are a common cause of problems.

The right and better solution is for each car (body or interior) that you want to paint is that you must to do a test before to real paint the rest of your kit car.....
At this time, there isn't problem......
