Im looking at buying an 85 jetta off one of my friends dads...the only problem with it that i need help with is that the car wont idle at all you have to keep the gas pressed always even when starting. Is this a carb. problem. If you need any more info. which im sure you do just ask me specific questions so I can ask them. Im not to good at working on newer cars Im an early model chevy fan myself i just need something cheap for gas mileage.

Adjusting the idle on a CIS fuel injection is almost not even worth it, so I hope it's easier on a carb!

Do you have to keep it at high RPM or just keep the pedal pressed. If its high RPM make sure all the plugs are firing, wires, distributor, ignition coil.

I have a 91 so I'm not sure this applies. When I had the same problem it was the idle stablilizer. I cleaned it with carborator cleaner and it runs great now.
