95 Escort Stereo

I was installing a new deck into my friend 95 escort and I couldn't get it to fit all the way in the dash. I moved the harnesses out of the way and got it to sit in beautifully... but then the cd player and the power locks stopped working. The cd player just makes a constant clicking noise. When I tried to put the stock deck in all that happened was that the time would light up very weakly for a few second and then the whole unit would stop working. Also the power locks only work when the car is put into gear. What could be wrong? Could one of the fuses maybe blown? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd check the fuses, for starters, but also check behind where you had that deck, perhaps when you managed to stuff it in there you mashed some wiring and grounded a few wires to something sharp back there. Carefully examine the wires for cuts, or if they are crossed or still pressed onto something that could ground them. Beyond that, I don't know.
