Hello,
My 2000 Montana had service engine soon light on this morning, and then threw a P1404 code today, and Auto Zone told me this:
IAT - B Circuit Malfunction / EGR Temperature sensor circuit
Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor @ $15.99
Based on some research, is this what I need with a P1404? Also, the service engine light is off, and was off when the code was read.
Thoughts?
Thanks!!!
DaveR

Welcome to AF!!
Yes the IAT sensor should cure the issue. If the light is off then it is probably a stored code that has been there for some time. If the light is off and stays off I wouldn't do anything at the present time. The IAT may be working properly and was picked up during a drive cycle and has not reoccured. This can happen and is of no real concern. If the light returns then change it.

I have the same code - P1404 IAT sensor. Let me know if replacing the sensor turns off the service enging soon light. My Montana is a 2001 with 116,000 miles. For every ones INFO,:2cents: I turned off the Air Bag light by spraying WD40 into the seat belt latch. there is a switch inside the latch.

Hello,
Since my light is off, I am taking the advice and not replacing...unless the light comes back on, at which time I'll post.

I had the same code on my 2001 montana after I returned from a long trip. No apparent engine problems the light came on and stayed on. Reset first time it came back on within a few miles. Reset the second time it has not come back on yet. Autozone and car quest could not identify p1404 dealership said bring it in of course. independent repair shop said it was an emissions code and thats when i went on the internet and found your thread. Based on the replies i am going to wait and see if it returns.
The light has returned and the car has been driven for about two weeks and there is no apparent malfunction. I getting a little concerned about a hiden malfunction which could lead to a serious problem but I hate to take it to a dealership and pay out the $ for something minor. I am open for suggestions, please reply.
Should I try replacing the IAT sensor and if so where is it located and how difficult a job is it?
PS The light is still on and my wife has been driving it to work for weeks. Is this going to hurt anything? I talked to a mechanic and he said 90 percent of the time it is a loose gas cap but mine is ok. Please advise.
ps I finally broke down and took it to a dealership which told me it was an old code and they had to down load the program which cost me $70, at least I finally got it resolved.

Hello eaglehawk,
Since my post I haven't had the code return, so I am considering the problem as "not a problem". If it comes back, I will post.
Good luck!

I had a p1404 code--Intake Air Temperature Sensor-- As I was removing the Intake manifold I noticed that a 1/2 inch plastic hose was disconnected from the rocker cover on the firewall side of the engine. It has a tapered rubber end that fits tight into the cover. When the job was done the check engine light was out, no more codes. This may have fixed the issue.
