ok, simple question, my daugher's 1999 Rodeo 2wd, LSE has come up with the code of 301, and I was wondering, standing at the front of the engine, which cylinder is #1??:uhoh:

On my '97 3.2L, it goes 1,3,5 on the passenger side of the engine, from front to back, and 2,4,6 on the driver's side, again front to back. Someone will have to verify this for 98+. It should be in the archives. Good luck!

From the FAQ page, it is the same.

PO301= misfire cyl #1. Yep, #1 is front/left. Could be a cracked intake manifold gasket causing a vac leak & lean misfire. I've never heard of an isuzu coil-over going bad, but you could swap coils to see if the problem follows the coil. My bets are on a bad IMG.

ok, thanks guys. and I did look at the FAQ pages first, but I guess I didn't look enough. and Rodeo 02, you gave a diagnosis that I really did not want to hear, but thanks for the suggestion, I will check into it.

I got that code(and others) for my IMG when it went. It's not really that expensive to get fixed.

same here. I had a misfire code when I had the IMG replaced.

During the life of my '97, two coils have gone bad. One by the previous owner five years ago, and one I encountered last year. Road salt was the culprit on the last one. Got the misfire message code I believe.
I like your suggestion about moving the coil around to check it. Should be careful when removing the wire harness though. The plastic catch breaks real easy, I have a cable tie holding mine on now.
For what it's worth, I bought an extra used coil on e-bay and it's in the glovebox as a spare. Paid about $20, tested it first, its a winner compared to the cost of a new one. Piece of mind.

It's really not a difficult repair to do yourself. Parts are cheap and it just takes half a day. How much have you payed at the shop to have it done?

ok, so I went and replaced the IMG myself, and it seems that the CEL might stay off ( I hope). but my question now is, normally when the IMG goes bad, when you get it removed, it is fairly obvious to locate the bad spot?? The gaskets that I replaced all looked good, as far as I could tell, and that is why I am asking. BTW, I went ahead and replaced the whole set of gaskets, and it was a not too hard for this fat, white boy. :grinno:

When I had mine replaced they showed me the old and there was a section broken off. Hopefully all is well with your Rodeo now. It's cool you were able to fix it yourself.
