I have a GM DVD player and roof console from a 2004 Venture. Does anyone know if it will work in a 2001 venture that did NOT have a dvd from the factory. My dealer said no way, it needs "class 2 data" and they recommended that I call GM to get one installed $$. Does anyone have experience doing this retrofit? I am most concerned that a wiring harness may not be in place and that is what I do not have. I am also concerned about class 2 data, mostly because I am unsure what that is.

its about as clear as mud to me, but maybe that will shed a few more rays of light on the subject.
i wouldnt go thru a dealer for something like this. take it to a place that installs audio and video for vehicles, circuit city, best buy, etc... see what they can do for you.

I asked 4 installers and they each had different answers. One wanted to explore for $50/hr, another said the radio was different, one said no-way...
All to unknown for me.
If anyone has done this please let us know how.
Thanks.

The factory system does feed through the radio, so depending on which radio you have, you may also need to replace it. I'd be really surprised if the wiring harness is there because not only does the overhead console have the DVD and rear seat audio controls, it also has the controls for the rear heat/air. You'll also need the lower console where the DVD player is mounted, or will have to mount it somewhere else. You may also need to somehow obtain and attach a bracket to the inside of the roof since it may not be there.
I'd suggest that if you want a DVD player, have an aftermarket one installed - it will have better features and may be less hassle in the end. BestBuy or Circuit City have units that I believe are reasonably priced....just my opinion....Glen
