I am moving to the golden state (california) and was wondering what the policies are on modified vehicles? I heard you have to have the original factory exaust w/ no mods is this true? If i just pass the emissions tests will I be fine or will they look at the actual parts? Any info is greatly appreciated....I dont want to go out there and have to change my car.

I live in Cali I don't have a Subaru but I have Civic with a JDM motor and I pass emissions alog as your exh is 50 state legal your good if it doesn't go above a certin db level and you have your cats. And that goes for all of your parts 50 state street legal.

I think that the California Air Resource Board is in charge of that sort of stuff... here's their web site http://www.arb.ca.gov/homepage.htm :)

Sorry to hear that you're moving into Cali. This state is the worst when it comes to mods... too many laws to keep track of!

what is there one on the down pipe and on the up pipe and also on the exh right? If you keep all those on you should be fine but if you do remove them just make sure you don't get pulled over its a fine of $500+ for each cat removed.

ouch...i dont think i will be removing any cats then....what about noise, are they strict about that too? I was thinkin about removing my resonator on the intake but I fear the car will then be too loud....has anyone done this mod? Is it really that loud?

For you car loudness it can't be loader then like 89db but don't qoute me on that. If you put a after maket intake you'll be fine with noise. Its mostly the exh that is going to make it louder.

I'm certain that you only have to worry about two things, emissions and noise level. As long as you pass emissions, you are fine. Noise level I believe is 89db, if you get pulled over and they write you up stating your car is too loud, make sure they check it with a meter, otherwise just go to court and say they never checked the noise level and you will surely win. I'm certain because two of my friends have done this. Regarding other modifications such as ride height, they are starting to get a little picky and you are supposed to have certain clearing on your car, but I wouldn't worry too much about that as most cops are too stupid to check anyway. Keep your cats on and you should be fine.

For your info ride height is 22 inches from the grond to the center of your head lights. thats here in Cali.
