Hey everyone, I am new to this forum. I recently bought a 2000 GP SE with the 3.1. The car is loaded ie. Power windows, locks, mirrors, seat. I bought the car from a used car dealer, and only got one key. I was wondering if there is any way to tell if my car has remote keyless entry (is it standard and I just need to buy the key fobs?) Also I have noticed that when im crusing at around 60, and am barely stepping on the gas, keeping the rpms @ around 2000, the engine surges, goes to about 2100, then back n forth to bout 1700. Once I let off the gas a little, or step on it some more this stops. Any ideas as to what is wrong??? Any help would be appreciated!!

post the last 8 digits of your vin number, and I can tell you if you have factory keyess entry, and give you the part number of the transmitter you'll need. The surging is the transmission switching in and out of lockup. It may be a problem, or depending on engine load at the time it occurs, it may be normal (although 60 mph is a little high for this to occur normally).

The last 8 of my vin are YF344606. Also with the surging I noticed today it is actually around 50, and its under very little load, ie. mostly flat roads. and only once its shifted through all the gears (in OD I guess) Is there anyway to tell if it is normal? I dont know anything about automatics, my last vehicle was a 95 chevy S-10 4.3 V6 with a standard, so Im new to this automatic stuff, so any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Im very mechanically inclined (went to a tech. college) and have untill now done all my own work on my vehicles, (mostly older however, with the newest being my girlfriends 98 sunfire). Also one other thing, the dealer changed my oil before I got the car, and the change oil light come on when I start the car and stays on for about 1 min and then goes off, is this normal? do I need to reset it? Thank again

1st, your car is not equipped with either remote locks or factory security. At 50, I'd say the transmission surge is normal. That speed is right at the torque converter lock-up threshhold, and sometimes the trans will "search" for the proper gear and whether to lock the convertor or not at that speed.

It does have theft lock paskey I think. What would it take to have keyless entry? Is there just a plug in module or something??

In my opinion, the Change Oil light is useless. Some swear by it but I change mine every 4000-5000 miles. It can be reset by turning on the ignition to the position right before start and then press the gas pedal to the floor three times within 5 seconds and waiting for the light to go out before cranking or turning the switch back off.

Almost if not all GM cars now use the transistor keys, regardless if they have the keyless entry or not.

Im scared to know how much its gonna cost to have another key made. Thanks again to everyone!!!

Oh yeah any ideas as to what it would take to have keyless entry? is it as simple as a plug in module(radio frequency reciever)or is it more complicated than that? I have power everything.

A lot more complicated than that. You need a RCDRL receiver, a body control module that will support RKE and anti-theft, the supporting wiring and the dealer will have to program the BCM with a Tech II machine if you could ever successfully accomplish the conversion.
You are better off with an aftermarket system.
