Okay so coming home from a girlfriends house, I decided that I wanted to roll through my small country town and check my bank account(all of this knowing i have a headlight out). So i take my chances not figuring many cops would be out (12:15am) but low and behold one of a few cars on the road, a city cop pulls me over in the bank itself. I expected the headlight ticket, but then he likes oh you gotta remove the window tint as well which is only 32% on the sides.. i guess im only allowed a four inch strip here in michigan. Then to top it off he asks if i had any newer insurance.. Nope not in the car that insurance i gave em expired 3/5/06 without even realizing it, all the while my newest insurance was sitting atop my refrigerator which i dont ever recall my parents telling me it came in.. So all in all.. tonight i was hit with no valid insurance ( anyone know how much this shits gonna cost in michigan?), window tint 14 days to take off or configure, and a headlight 14 days to fix.. If anyone happens to know where i can get a drive side headlight that'd be great as well.. every junk yard in a 30 mile radius has none of them. So hopefully my insurance will change once i take my new one into the court, and also my best friends GF's mom is the magistrate.. but for the headlight im shit out of ideas right now.. Any online places, ebays bone dry =/ THanks guys.

For the headlight, isn't there any local auto parts stores? If not try going to autozone.com or some of the others. That insurance ticket is a easy one to get out of (at least for me it was) I got a copy of our insurace bill and it show the "Valid thru" dates, just make sure that its valid through the ticket date and the judge should throw it out. I had to pay $25 to the court but that beats the $500 it would have cost

'ello - Fellow michigander here.
Go up to your district court and ask where to go for traffic violations. Say you'd like an informal hearing regarding your ticket number.

What this is: you sit in front of a judge and the officer which gave you the ticket, and basically explain to them your situation (say you had insurance were just unaware of the expiration) bring with you proof of insurance and whatnot

It should be about a month before your hearing.. depending on your district.

Also, be sure you've followed through on the tint and headlight requirements and bring a receipt of headlight as well as a photograph of the tint removed.
Stress to them your previously clean driving record and the fact that it WAS NOT YOUR INTENT to disobey the law.

The judge will most likely throw all of the above out and you'll get away with little damages.
If they cite you with a financial ticket : always say you're in bad financial standing and you need some time to pay it.. they'll give you a month or two interest free ;)

Present yourself professionally and stay calm.. it can get a little nerve racking in there.

Best of luck.
