Ebay doesn't have much for 7-bolt engines(only 1 currently and I have an offer on it). But I lost the motor in my 95 GSX and need to replace it. SBR says I need the following(and for only $1400) to swap in a 6-Bolt:
This kit will add $1399 to the price and include:
ACT Flywheel
Mitsu Factory New Cam Sensor
1G Intake
Gasket Kit
Water Pipe / Water Outlet
Thermostat Housing
Timing Belt Cover
6 Bolt Oil Filter Housing
I have been looking at JDM cyclone motors and I think that they would come with everything that I need except the Oil filter housing. Does anyone know where to get a cheap motor from besides ebay, and what are your thoughts on the JDM motor option(I know the differences between the JDM and US motors) ;)
Kevin this would be a wonderful time for you to stop by!

Theres a bone stock 7 bolt at a junk yard by me for $1700 I believe, I'd just shell out for the 6 bolt and it wont cost that much if you piece most of it together and buy used stuff

I have a 7-bolt head out of my 97 eclipse if you can find a short block! its has 80,000 miles on it but i assume you will bring everything to the machine shop anyways...Its just taking up space that I dont have in my tiny ass garage, I will give you a good deal on it if you are interested :-)

I am away at college, and my car is at home(220 miles away) and there is only one machine shop there and he intentionally builds bad motors for repeat business. So I cant really rebuild one right now, I dont have time to take it to Casper(120 miles away from parents house) to have the machine work done. So I really need to just get one of these low mileage motors from Japan and swap it in.
Also I dont remember and dont want to search since I already have a thread started. There is no difference between a 6-bolt tranny and a 7-Bolt tranny is there? The cranks are not splined to the shaft so I wouldn't think so but I am just asking for my own peace of mind. thanks ;)

IIRC, I asked the same question a few months ago and the answer was no, no difference.

well there is alittle difference, Im not a brain on this but I do KNOW that a 6 bolt engine WILL work with a 7bolt tranny...because I have a 6bolt motor and a 7bolt tranny :grinyes:

There is a difference between trannys but the way they attach to the motor is the same. Same bolt pattern. All you need is a different flywheel (6 bolt obviously) to connect your 2g tranny to a 6 bolt motor. You must reuse your 2g tranny though due to the fact that 3 of the 4 motor mounts are attached to the tranny where on a 1st gen tranny there is only 1 motor mount on the tranny and 3 on the engine.
Just to set this straight... Its not 6 bolt/7 bolt tranny's. Its 1g/2g because 92.5+ have 7 bolt motors but yet are still 1g's and use the same tranny as 91-92 with 6 bolt motors. 90's are different due to spline count for transfer case.
