I couldn't find an answer in my searching so here it goes.

Is the antenna on my 99 GT SL supposed to go back down after switching from radio mode to CD? (Factory Infinity System)

Example.....
When I start or acc the car and it's in CD or Tape mode the antenna is down as should be. When I go to radio mode of course the antenna goes up.

Now should it go back down immediately when going back to CD or Tape mode or does it just stay up until the car is turned off?

Maybe there is a delay when changing modes before it returns back down?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the fast replys.

I went and double check how mine works and it don't go down while switching modes. Only goes down after shutting the stereo or the car off.

So I dug out the Owners Manual and here's what it says..

Power antenna (if so equipped)
The antenna will automatically be extended when the radio power switch is turned ON while the ignition key is in either the "ON" or "ACC" position. The antenna will automatically be retracted and stored when either the radio power switch is turned OFF or the ignition key is set to the "LOCK" position.

Nothing mentions switching modes.

So I guess it's working properly according to whats stated above.

Thanks again. I guess I should have just dug out the book in the first place, but again. It don't mention nothing about switching between modes :/

How does the antenna operate with an aftermarket stereo? I'm considering upgrading :D

with mine, the antenna stays up ther entire time you listen to music, regradless if its cd or radio, you have to turn the stereo off for the antenna to go down

O.K. Thank you youngvr4

It's wasn't a big deal. Just something I noticed and was curious about.

I would think if it kept having to go up & down it would wear out the motor much quicker. (For those of us who use the radio like a T.V. Remote LMAO)

I have an aftermarket stereo, but my attenna drops as soon as I switch to CD. So perhaps the difference lies in stock vs. aftermarket stereos/headunits.

igo's right, its controlled by the head unit. the deck sends the signal through the remote wire when it wants the antenne up/down.

see, with mine, its very high-tech. i have to turn the head unit off, they quickly get out of the car, walk to the antenne, and push it down about an inch so it catches and the motor retracts it lol...stupid broken track...

The antenna problem is a common thing. You can buy another from 3SX- http://www.3sxperformance.com/body.asp
