Brake pads Ford F150 1997

I will soon have to install new front brake pads on my F150 ford truck. The dealer pads are really expensive. Any recommendations for a cheaper pad that will perform well. I would like a set that does not start to squeak after a few miles. Any ideas are appreciated.

Wagner makes the best brakepads,thermoquiets.I have some bad news,you may have to replace the rotors and the front rotors are a pain in the butt to remove.I have seen to the point the rotor have to be cut in half without damaging the wheel bearings.They are rusted on very good

Ceramic are the best for stopping power, no squeaking and also no brake dust. You can get them at autozone or i got mine at carquest for under fifty bucks. You really want to have your rotors turned though cause you will greatly reduce pad life if not.

Stay awy from AutoZone(really called AutoJunk) for the brake pads,they are cheap.Cheap brake pads are not the way to go.All I hear about cheap brake pads are bad results.There are no gaurentees against brake dust from the manufacturers of brake pads.The rotors are on there,rusted on very good like I mentioned and it is a common problem on the 1997 and up F150s and Expaditions.Only option is to cut the rotors in half and buy new rotors.

You can order most any brand name at autozone and they are open more hours easier to get to.With the ceramic pads i never have dust and i have five vehicles with them ,thats pretty much putting them to the test.If you want to be happy turn your rotors and go ceramic.

If you go with Carquest ceramic pads make sure that you go with the BCD pads not the GCD pads. This truck should have semi-metalic pads so you may get some rotor warping running ceramics. The BCD pad will be the least likely to warp the rotors.

The only problem with ceramic brake pads,they are noisy.AutoZone is really called AutoJunk,they sell the cheapest and worst auto parts that are 100% junk.

I just looked at my box from my last ceramic pads from carquest it says guaranteed quiet and it means it ive never heard the slightest noise ever.

Whoa whoa whoa, Do not trash rotors! Heres a list of what you need to do:

-call your dealership and ask them for the minimum specs for the cutting of the rotors, measure rotors and if under min. cutting spec, you have to replace them.
-have rotors turned or buy new rotors
-get FORD pads (Availible online or at your dealership) You may pay more but believe me, shitty pads are shitty pads anyway you look at it.
-Undo the two caliper bolts and remove caliper, remove outside pad but leave the inner pad on temporarily (To squeeze caliper in when you put new pads on) Remove rotors (you will have to hit the space on the rotor next to the lugs with a hammer to break rotor loose) replace or repair rotors and put back on, squeeze caliper in and remove inner pad now.
-Put new pads on caliper and put caliper back on, put pins back in and tighten only after you have started the caliper bolts in a few threads so it will line up.
-Put wheels back on, and pump the brakes a few times to make sure you have pedal.
-And you done!

When I replace brake pads on any vehicle I own, I use a trick that a mechanic friend of mine told me about. You take 2 hacksaw blades and fit them into the saw with the teeth pointing in opposite directions. Cut a 60 degree slot across the shoe down to metal and point the lower end facing rear of vehicle. Dust is pushed out and also make sure the anti-rattle clip is on rear shoe.
