IM LOOKING FOR HEADERS FOR MY 1991 AND 1994 CHEVY TRUCKS. THEY ARE BOTH 350 TBI . MY ? IS WHATS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE SHORTIES AND THE HUGGERS. IS ONE BETTER THEN THE OTHER? ID LIKE TO GO WITH THE SHORTIES CUZ THEY WILL END WHERE THE STOCK HEADERS END..
IF ANYONE HAS THESE PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT DIFFERANCE YOU NOTICED...IN PROFORMANCE. ...THX:grinyes:

I'd look at the edlebrock TES headers.. They are complete headers that include even the Y-pipe. If you look at your stock Y-pipe, you may notice some horribly wrinkled bends.. you're better off replacing the Y-pipe and the headers.. Try to look for something ceramic coated whatever you do because heat tends to be a breaking factor with headers.. And if possible, spend the extra $15 to get some metal gaskets like Fel-Pro or something.. This will save you in the long run because they will not crack or dry out and cause leaks.

I Took A Look Under My Hood Again And Found Out I Cant Use The Huggers, They Will Hit My Fram If I Try To Run Pipes To It...so Anyways...i Do Not Need A Y Pipe For My '91, I Have Dual Exhaust. Both Pipes Have Equal Length, And For My '94 It Has Single So Ill Check On The Edlebrock For This One.....thanx For The Info..

One More ?, What Are Angled Plugs?...do My Trucks Have Angled Or Straight Plugs.....some Of The Headers Im Checking Out Say Will Not Work With Angled Plugs...

Hmm.. I havent really heard that.. It might be just angled plug wires.. Some wires are 180/0* degrees while others are 90.. you can tell which you have by just looking at where they connect to the plugs.. If clearance is still the issue, I know Accel makes decent shorty plugs that help.

a buddy of mine says headers are no good...cuz they get loose all the time and have to tighten them...also the heat off of these willl kill my starter...and i will have to replace my starter more often.......

some of the old school high performance cylinder heads had angled spark plug bosses....spark plugs screwed into the head at an angle instead of the regular "strait in".

Even now...some of the various head manufactures make cylinder heads for GM small blocks with angled spark plugs.... It make a big difference as to what type headers you can use if you have "angled spark plug heads".

This is true, but those problems can easily be solved if you want headers. All you need are good bolts, some red? threadlock (loc-tite) and header tape along with ceramic coated headers. The ceramic is the coolest (temp. wise) finish on headers, and header tape will reduce the temp. even more.

the bottom line...if you have angled spark plug heads you have to get the appropriate headers that fit those type of heads. If you don't you will have some serious problems....they just don't inter-change.

I have a set of Flowtech headers (By Holley) on my truck. I really like them; I have never had to retighten them yet. The only thing I suggest is getting a set of metal gaskets, and the ceramic-coated set. I have the painted set and they just flake off when they get really hot. They work with your stock set up (plugs, oil filter, everything) just make sure you order the Y Pipe to go with it, your stock Y Pipe will not fit. Hope this helps.

header tape on headers not suited for it will destroy the metal of the header within hours of run time.

I have had flowtechs on my truck for 3 years now, I used metal gaskets and have never had to re'torque them "except the re'torque after the first heating", have not had to replace my starter, and the stock y hooked up fine, (though I replaced the rest of the exhaust 1 month later for 3" high flow).
Camaro's, firebirds, etc have problems with the header heat destroying starters, that's because there's not as much space for air to flow around.
If worried about the heat and your starter, install a starter heat shield and or header wrap.
but Header wrap can cause your headers to rust quicker by holding moisture.
Though I have never used ceramic I hear good things about ceramic headers, they look nicer too.

After putting Edelbrock shorties on my '90 Suburban, could no longer get a socket on the spark plugs. Best solution was special shorty open end wrench from Sears. Wait 'til engine is stone cold, then I can change plugs faster and easier than with stock exhaust manifolds and a socket!

I had a 92 Chevy K1500 4x4 with Hedman PN 69440 longtubes that I had coated.. Best thing I ever did to the truck..The bottom end torque that I gained as opposed to the edelbrock TES tubes I had on prior was phenominal.. They were cheap too.. Under 200 bucks cdn for the headers themselves, I had metal graphite gaskets on too, and locking bolts, never a problemw ith them loosening.. The TBI engines respond awesomely to opening up the exhaust... The 2 way cat used in the 88-92/late 93 trucks were no good for performance..

Also all trucks used straight plugs
