ok i never done this before. but i need to change out the ignition switch on my caprice. the stupid haynes book says its on the side of the steering column but im not seeing it. could it be mounted on the top of it? if so do i need to drop the column to change it?

It's mounted on the top left side of the column. The attachment bolts are on the left side, but the switch itself is on the top. It has a wiring harness attached to it from the right side. You will need a 7-mm socket or box wrench.

It will help if you lower the steering column.

yea i got the new one on, but still have problems getting it started. i dont know what to do now. maybe you can help me with this... when i turn the key forward the dash lights and radio come on, but when i turn to start it, it all goes out. but when i turn the key back to accessories, stereo works then. i think maybe its the wire between the solenoid and starter. all the cables from the battery are tight.

you probably know this, but except for the accessories cutting off when you try to start it, everything else sounds to be working ok. do you have a feedback carburator, of so, it should click (softly, open the hood and you might hear it). you probly just missed a wire or something.

i guess i have the feedback carb. it clicks softly when i turn it on. im going to check all the wires that lead to the starter today and hopefully its there.
