Installing my FMIC & 14b tonight..

I'm installing my SSautochrome FMIC from Dsmtuners Group buy tonight along with a 14b. I'm not sure how long its going to take but I'm starting tonight around 4:22 (right after 4:20), and hope to have it all polished off and done buy 12am..

I took off from work for about 2 hours and went and had a new 24in turbo feed line made with banjo and 3/8in fittings. Bought the 5in intercooler coupler & 2 clamps because I was jipped one from the kit. I also bought 4 (10.5 grade) turbo bolts (4th to replace the turbo-to-manifold stud) 3 new 02 housing bolts & 1 nut, Copper 1800deg Aintiseze stick (the dont make nickel in the stick).

Then went to Mitsubishi and bought a new banjo bolt just in case, 4 copper water crush washers, 2 oil copper crush washers & oil drain gasket (turbo side).

RRE has a Garage Sale on O2 & Turbo gaskets for $20 a pair!!! So I have 2 sets, I ported the W/G flapper opening last night, I couldn't find time to port any more. The 14b I bought already has the upper water line attached, So I got lucky their, I just need to take the upper water lines off my t-25 and use it for the lower water line.

I had a co-worker bring in his reciprocating saw, I have a diamond cutting saw, and all the cutting tools I'll need to get my bumper to fit. I'm going to wing it, but might cut the entire opening for the FMIC on my 96 bumper. It will just depend how it will look.

Only thing I need left to buy is 3 bolts, 6 washers and 5 nuts to mount the FMIC top and two side tabs to the support frame of the car... Stoked

Couple of you guys have done it already... Thanks for all the write ups..

We are Boston University School of Management students currently researching the development of a new product. Your completion of this survey will provide us with valuable information for our project. As students in Boston, we need your help in finding out about the response to our product in the Southern and Midwestern states. The survey only takes a few minutes and would help us tremendously. Thank you in advance for your time and participation.

Good luck. It also took me alot longer than I expected. There is almost always a problem you run into that you didn't plan on. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it all works out.

I would highly recomend against using anything but FACTORY issue turbo bolts. ;) Good luck with the project. I should be doing a buschur race FMIC on the EVO next week if my buddy orders it (owes me money). :)

First off: I did the turbo swap because I was 99% the smoke poring out of my exhaust after shifting under boost was becasue of a bad T-25!

Not dune yet, 1:15am & just pulled it into the garage, The front bumper & headlights took a long time to take off! I think my Head gasket is blown, and not my turbo. Oil is puking down onto my intake from under the T-stat housing.. Not alot, just a smidge.. Another reasion is becasue their wasn't any oil in my Intercooler, well a little, but no puddling! So I'm a bit annoyed.

I got the tubro on, the major pain in the ass was the custom oil feed line... I thought for SURE 24in would be long enought, It was but by only 1/2 inch... The turbo bolts were a simple to get out with my breaker bar, 2 were seased, but had no chance aginst my deturmination and strenth.. That was probably the easyest thing other then taking the intercooler and tires off..

So, basicly I stripped, fucked, cock swalled my bolts for the oil return line. I significantly do NOT recomend using the 2g oil return, It sucked.. That 1g oil line is worth its weight in gold.. I filed that damn thing with a circular file for 20 minuets busting my hand aginst shit that was on the other side of the car! If I ever do it agian I'll spend 30+ on an new 1g return line, bolts and gasktets...

The hardest part for me tonight was around 12am I got the turbo on, done, finshed, and decited to cut that metal away for the intercoller pipeing to fit through the core support... I drilled holed around the area, then drilled larger holes, and used hand held tools to snip & bend away at it for about 30-40 mins. Kinda sucked.

I did get the upper throttle body flange and all 4 fucking bolts and nuts on.. Holly Crap! All I have left to do is drill a hole through the top and side tabs, mount it, put the pipeing on, find a way to get the stock 14b J-pipe to work with the interooler pipeing and put the bumper and headlights back on, mount my overflow tank. 2-3 hours tops.

I did start sanding my 1g BOV for about 5 mins while I was waiting for the JB Weld to dry on the 1g J-pine.. I cut the nipple off... I got most of the red paint off with the 180 grit.. I just finished polishing a 1g valve cover, so I thought a pollished BOV would look nice along with it..

I did forget to buy a wastegate pin to connect it to the flapper, I think I'm going to use a paperclip untill I get somthing that will work better.. I dont have any cotter pins laying around. I also forgot new vacume lines.. I actually might end up buying the RRE $26 red vac line kit for the 2g..

Sucks I won't get off work untill 7pm tomarrow, Work alllll fucking day from 9am.. Some time selling cars is for the dogs. I should have it up and running by 10pm tomarrow. It's hard to stay modivated when your busting you knuckels without anyone around.

I didn't take any becasue of how many people have done this so far! I got up at 8am to try and mount the Intercooler pips, realised I didn't cut enough of the radiator support to get the intercooler to fit through. So I took care of that, got all the intercooler pipes & couplers on exept the 14b J-pipe to LICP. I need to make a pipe to connect the two, I'm going to try and cut up the stock LICP, I think it will work.

Other then that, I just need to mount the intercooler, cut the bumper and put it all back together. I'm going to finish it up Saturday. My hands need rest, their fucking SORE!

Done... Took alot longer then I antisipated almost 21 hours. After I got done today at noon, I took it to my detail shop at work and cleaned 'er up. Then thougt I'd take the freeway home. Bad idea! Blew the UICP-to-intercooler coupler off on the freeway on ramp. Gay.. For those of you who have never done it, try going 20mph on the freeway untill an offramp blowing black smoke out your exhasut having biker guys flipping you off.

Got her home safely. I need to go get a new hose clam and bov recirulation hose tomarrow. The hose clamp was the culprit, wont seal, jumps threads...

I'll show engine pictures when I finish polishing my bov, intake, catch can & put my pollished valve cover & red vac lines and wire looms in.

lol blowing intercooler pipes on the freeway. I head my fucking head under the car for 15 minutes while cars were flying past me doing 80mph about 6 feet fom m head. that sucked balls.

The first time I blew an IC pipe off I thought I had just lost the motor.:icon16: Scared the hell out of me. Instead I lost my motor at 1300RPM pulling into a driveway:disappoin Oh well, all you can do is keep fixing them right.

how in the fuck did you loose your engine pulling out of your driveway? I did have the chrome recirculation before installing it, It wouldn't fit back on, so I'm just going to get some radiator hose from the hardware store tomarrow.

I was missing a T-clamp from the kit. I used one off my old Dejontool UICP. The diffrence between the 14b and t-25 is bad ass! Especally when your t-25 is blown and smokes like a chineese hooker.

I don't know, I was going up a shitty dirt road to my sister-in-laws house and was running about 1300RPM and the car died, I thought it was really weird. That was about 30 ft from were I parked. When I went home I could here the motor knocking. The car still runs, but it has a mean rod knock. so now its 6-bolt time.;)
