'97 Yukon- battery problems?

For the past few weeks when I'm in reverse and pulling out of a parking spot while I turn my wheel, my Yukon starts to sputter like the battery is going dead. It usually sputters while I make a hard turn in reverse, but when I put it in drive, it drives just fine.
Yesterday, I put it in reverse and as I turned the wheel and backed out, my car just died, just as if the battery had died. I put it in park and was able to start it again with no problems.
Today, I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. It was totally dead. About an hour later, I opened the driver side door and heard a "click,click,click,click.." coming from the pedal area. I pressed in the break to the floor and all of the sudden my power came back on and I was able to start the car. Is this a bad battery or does it sound like a short?
Thanks for your time and effort.

We had a problem with our 97. Turns out our Accessory cable was corroded(some similar symptoms). Check that out.
Also, the side posts for the battery aren't the greatest idea GM has come up with and are extremely murphy prone. Check them out and if you have more problems switch to a traditional clamp. This has worked exceptionally for us!
