My buddy is in Iraq and I'm stuck in the US. His son has asked me to look this car over for a seemingly electrical problem.
1995 Firebird, 3.4L V-6, Manual trans, t-tops, chipped ignition key. No PW, DL or anything else. The factory radio was replaced with an aftermarket one. There's a security light that flashes when the key is removed and the doors are shut and locked. The problem is that it will start fine for a couple days, then not start at all. When it won't start at all, all the dash lights are on, but when you turn the key, nothing. No ticking like a dead battery(new one installed anyway), doesn't turn over....nada. The service guy at the local stealer Said that there are two security wires for the radio and since they are ultra thin wires, they break easily. He said this is what's wrong with the car and that it will run $400 to fix it.
And the dude didn't even LOOK at the car!:screwy: :nono:
So I am trying to see if this is something that jumps right out at you fine folks here so I can get some help for this kid.
Thanks a bunch folks,
Tom

Get it looked at somewhere else. I replaced the radio in mine with an aftermarket one. I also have the chipped security key, the two wires you were told about, in my experience, are in the ignition. they are 2 small white wires, there is a connection under the dash by the steering wheel. I have never even heard of anyone having a problem like this after replacing a radio, but i could be wrong.

The radio security just keeps the radio from working if stolen in a nother vehicle. This is the computer security for the ignition system. The only thing he does have right is the price...the computer for the security system runs around 300-400 dollars. Hopefully it is something other than the actual computer itself, otherwise, it will be pretty costly.
