Ok... Its time to upgrade and I have a problem... Which turbo should I get... I can get a brand new Bulleseye Power 50 trim or 57 trim. The thing is I can get the 57 trim for 100 bucks cheaper brand new. Im still on an AFC and plan to run 680cc injectors. Ive heard so many good things about the 50 trim. I have heard good and bad things about the 57 trim. What is spool difference between the two? Also in slowboys dyno test on tuners the 50 trim made more power. Can someone with experience with these turbos point me in the right direction. Which one is better for a street/strip daily driver. My hp goals are upper 300's pump and 400ish on race gas. Which would you guys go with taking into accout the 57 trim is cheaper and im still on the SAFC. Thanks... Ryan

Well, I wouldnt even go that big unless you are running DSM link. I've never heard anything bad about either the 50 or 57 trim, I would go with the cheaper one. How much are they?

First off, you can't run an AFC and 680's and expect a decent tune. It will suck at idleing AND at boost.

Second, 50 trim and 57 trim turbos isn't really a turbo. It's a ratio of the specs on the turbo. Which ones are you talking about?

I've seen plenty of people running 680s on an afc with no problems. Hell I've seen people running 750s

The 57 trim is gonna lag worse than the 50 trim will on the street. If your goal is 300-400hp then I'd go with the 50 trim so that you have more bottom end power. Really, a 57 trim will only be good all around on a built motor. I've seen it and if I had the money to spend on a 57 trim and a built motor I would go that route. But, I don't, so therefore I would go with a 50 trim and use the afc and a gm maft for tuning it.

Thanks Blackcrow64 for giving me a straight answer. I am really get sick of this forum because nobody will give you a straight answer. I didnt post "can I run 680's with an afc" I personally have seen it done in two different cars. Sure, its not nearly as good as Dsm Link but I dont have 500 dollars for it right now. I wanted reviews on the turbos. If you dont know anything about them... Dont Post! Anyhow... any more input guys? Is the lag really noticable between the two turbos?

I wouldnt think lag would be more than 500 rpm between the two, really if you can I would go with the 57 trim that way you have room to work with

The problem is the 57 trim isn't much bigger than a 50 trim, and it doesn't seem to do quite as well. Actually, it looks like it flows a couple pounds less than the 50 trim. Same for the 54. The 60 trim does like 52 lbs/min or something. It's easy to see why the 50 trim is so popular in light of this...

I like to follow Forced Performance's lead in this. They offered the Green (50 trim) and Red (60-1) and didn't bother with any of the wheels in between (54, 57, and 60 trim). ;) I would agree with them on this one.

680s will work with an AFC, but there isnt much room for tuning. The injector compensation will be ~33%, minus another 10-14% to get somewhere near 10.5-11:1, leaving only another 3-7% of range on the AFC. This becomes a serious problem on race gas when you tend to lean out another 10% ;) But it will "work."

Kevin your the man... I thought the 50 trim was better but everyone says the 57 trim flows more... but from what ive seen the 50 is doing better. I have fallen into some extra funds and may dsm and link it after all... where can I get the best price on dsm link?

i was going this same route so i can tell you my experience. I was going with the 50 trim, because it was a good size turbo at low cost (i was looking at the SBR 50 trim). But then a guy told me to get the SBR 57 trim because it was better. Well i went to call in my order, and i still was a little iffy on the turbo i wanted, i couldnt really decide. I talked to this guy named marc at SBR when placing my order. He had a 2g gsx that ran 11's, so he knew his stuff. I told him i was probably gonna go with the 57 trim, and when i did he said "may i ask why you are heading towards the 57 trim... from experience the 57 trim is not as good as the 50 trim, it lags more and gives you the same power as the 50 trim" or words to that affect. He told me people complained about the 57 trims lag. He told me that on race gas the 50 trim could get a little over 400 whp, and on pump around 350 or something like that (dont exactly remember). Anyways, i didnt get either but thats my problem. The 50 trim would be much better in your case because you get basically the same power, but without the lag. i hope this helps.
