Silvia S13 K's 345 Tuning (progress thread)

As requested, I'll be doing progress threads for my kits from now on. :) My latest kit is the Fujimi S13 K's as modded by 345 Tuning. New bumper, sides, and wing, also significantly lengthens the rear width. The wing is not shown. I'm gonna paint it Duplicolor Graphite Grey Metallic. Pic:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kaiyao1/s13/s132.jpg
You can also see my friend's CLK-GTR that I'm helping him spraypaint. Here are the two choices of wheels (first picture are the included, second are Nismo LMGT2's.)
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kaiyao1/s13/s133.jpg
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kaiyao1/s13/s134.jpg
I REALLY want to use the second set, but...
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kaiyao1/s13/s135.jpg
As you can see, the bodykit lengthens the width of the rear, so you need wider tires, the Nismo LMGT2 would look unnatural (or would it?), I'll have to wait til the suspension is assembled before I make the call.

Keep he updates coming.
As for the wheels it will be your call when you get it together to see how it looks...but you may run into a problem with the height

id go with the first set the second set my reason its because it would look natural due to the wider fenders and it would lower it for a meaner look.
the second set make the car look nigarish (sorry for the use of this word but its the only one that best describes the second picture) and it doest look right because of the fenders and it might sit high when its finished
but its up to you
what did you use to make the body kit or is it available as is?

The bodykit came with the kit, molded in plastic. Parts fit was OK, some parts were too long so I had to sand and putty them. I don't think Fujimi makes this kit anymore..couldn't find it on HLJ. It's a pretty radical body kit.

You can see how tame th eoriginal car looks by comparison..

Well, I sprayed the color today (after primer, of course! ;) )
You can see a lot more of the detail now that it's painted. Put on a lot of coats so when I polish the body I won't sand through..

Hopefully by Monday I'll have the suspension/interior complete.

look'n tight!
btb i have a toyota crown tuned by 345 too, but it's more annoying cuz the side extenders are smaller and it's not a whole fender cover like that. i have to put putty to make it more even and to cover some holes. nwayz nice one!

The window trim and headlight housings still need to be done. The body is going under a halogen light for a couple of days before polishing. Thanks for the comments guys.

Hrm, the hardest part of modeling is waiting!!
I polished out the roof with micromesh's polishing kit (basically sandppaer of 3200, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 grit) and it is perhaps the first time it has worked as advertised - a mirror finish was achieved! :D
But while prepping the body with the 3200 grit pad I sanded through some bumps in the paint and they turned out to be dried-over air bubbles, so I basically sanded through to the primer
So I need to do some touchup work with the airbrush and wait another 2 days before I can start polishing up again
*sigh* The best part of getting something you want is waiting...or so they say :(

That Silvia looks Bloody awesome!!!:D I was going to buy an S13 for my first car......BTW, Want your tires any fatter? Those things look like their off a damn drag car!!!Good stuff!
daggerlee
07-23-2002, 06:14 AM
Yeah, they are pretty fat. :D
I finished polishing up the body today. Having fit problems with the body on the chassis - without the interior + window, it sits just fun, but with the interior/window in place it looks like a 4x4. >:(
Pics tonight or tomorrow maybe? :)

That sux how it sounds like your Silvia gained height! All cars ned to be LOW I tell you LOW!!!!!(Unlesss your talking about 4WDs/SUVs) I Can't wait to see the progress pics...My only problem is, that its hard to find a good S13 model in Oz :( & Fujimi are the only pepole I know who make one,Fujimis aren't my taste either, because I like to build the engine. Oh well..Might try get one off my friend when he goes to Singapore....Hopefully theres better ones. Like an Aoyishima :D That'd do
daggerlee
07-23-2002, 03:59 PM
Yeah, the problem is the interior sits too high on the chassis. I need to sand the bottom of the interior down so it'll sit lower. New way of lowering cars I guess, no more playing around with the shocks and struts!! :)

Ok ok here's a preview pic :) Taken without the interior, front bumper is not glued on

This is what I want to eliminated...I'm trying to find a quicker way than sanding it as sanding takes a long time for such a big piece.

Oooo...80 Grit...on a belt sander though...that might make a "quick snack" out of your silvia  Thanks for the new way of lowering! I want my future Pimpin project(60s or 90s Impala....MMM....Impala :bloated: )as low as it will go..Hope your Silvia turns out the way you want it....I saw a red 57 Chevy fang past my bus this afternoon comin back from school.......I felt the drool building up in my mouth instantly :D

*sigh* Well I got ahold of the beltsander but even after sanding off 1/8" or so the body still won't sit right. So I guess I'll have to cut the springs tonight and remold the two arms with a candle. Lucky for me they molded the front suspension in one piece...hopefully it will be painless! Too bad they're already painted, I might have to repaint them..

OPI - Thanks :)
Lowrider - 345/35/15 ( :( on the 15" oh well. )
tenzo - This is the first of a pair of S13's I'm gonna do. This one is gonna be a drag racer and the other one is going to be a drifter. I'm puttin the Nismo five spoke rims on the other one and scratchbuilding a Border body kit for it. Gonna be a lighter shade of metallic grey, I think.
Well I finished lowering it today. It's not as extreme as the pic I posted but I think it still looks good. I just cut the springs and bent the arms after softening them over a candle. Did you know polystyrene burns? Well, at least Tamiya acrylic-coated polystyrene.
