cannot remove key from ignition !!

Key Stuck In Ignition. Shifter Button Inop. Can Shift In Any Position Without Depressing Button. How To Fix Problem ?

what year car, do you have console shift or column shift style shifter. On the console shift some of the wires break down inside the console. If you take the top off and gently tug/look at the wires next to the shifter to see if any are broken.
