i am planning on buying a 1995 eclipse gst for around 6,000- 7,000 but the engine is more than likely going to have more than 80,000 miles and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a new engine because i would like for the car to last me a while and i think it is a 4g63 if u know where i could buy one and how much it would cost. thank your if u have any aditonal information i should know let me know thanks.

for most engines it is cheaper to just have your engine bored out and rebuilt with bigger rings and new or rebuilt rotating assemblies. Just a thought.

Go to your local autoparts store and get a compression tester. Then go to your local big bookstore and order a chiltons manual for your car. Find out what your compression should be and how to test it. Then, go to this car you want to be and check the compression. If it is good, you shouldn't have to get a new engine. Remember, you are buying a Japanese car, which have legendery reliability, so I wouldn't worry about buying a new engine.
