Limited Slip?

I read somewhere that all second gen Troopers (92 and on) were equipped with Limited Slip Differentials. Is this true? If so, it is a pretty handy feature in 4 wheel drive situations!

It's true if you have the G80 code on the options codes / firewall tag. No G80 = open rear diff (no posi)

sorry to be dumb but what does this mean?

It means: whether 4wd is on or not, on the rear axle the differential ( the thing in the middle that lets the wheels spin at different speeds on turns ) on a regular diff ( open diff ) if one wheel has no traction ( its spinning around around and not getting anywhere ) then the other wheel wont move (e.g. you could get stuck like this) but with limited slip the gears are arranged in such a way(it's not electronic, {but some can be}), even if the other wheel isn't getting any traction, the wheel that still has traction will keep receiving power. Theres a good example of this on howthingswork.com under the "how 4wheeldrive works" I think. So in short, its better to have limited slip in low traction situations, when you'd be using 4wheel drive.
My question is, for casual offroading, would I really get alot of benefit out of a rear limited slip? I'm not really interested in a rear locking diff, thats too much to fool with, just a limited slip that would automatically sort itself out in whatever I may encounter. And how many renowned 4x4's over the years have had rear limited slips? BTW, thanks for the info Joel!
::update:: - and damn, now I know I don't have it, just checked the option codes, what does C60 stand for? Ah well, life goes on...

Dont sweat it kingler! IMO, the limited slip rears are a PITA. They are super sensative to having the proper oil additive to function, the clutches wear with age, there's just more to go wrong with them. Yes they do help with traction if you are going in a streight line (boat launch, etc), around curves or turing they cause the arse end to fishtail & cause the tires to chirp on pavement on tight turns.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the info and I won't worry about if from now on.
