Operating Oil PSI

Today i noticed at an idle my oil gauge was at around 20 but when your driving i would go up to around 40. Last time i really paid attention it was idling at 40 and when you drive it was up to 60 or 65 , around there. Can someone tell me if this is normal?

my truck;
cold engine= 50psi at idle and while driving
warmed up= -idle= about 20-30psi
-while driving/reving=40-50psi
ur psi seems normal too me but we need more details about ur truck; year,engine, miles, etc

I have a 97 v6 4x4 w/ 115k on it. Cold idle se around 50, when its warm its idles at aroud 20. when driving cold its hits about 60. when its hot around 40-45.

I figure as long as its getting pressure its fine. If it would drop below id worry, but it hasn't yet. i use 5w30 also

anywhere from 20 - 60 is normal. cold engine = higher oil pressure. As the engine and oil warm up, it flows freer and the pressure will drop. Anything regularly below 16 or so, and I'd start to look into replacing the oil pressure sensor. the readings on the pressure gauge are connected to you revving the engines and rpms ...

what you describe (40 and then 60-65 while driving) sounds completely normal ...

Ok thanks guys I just wanted to make sure i didn't have some loss in oil pressure and my engine is going to blow.

Nah, you might have a better filter on that is not restricting flow as well.

What oil and filter do you use and have you switch brands lately?

so bobo brand from ez lube. I'm going to change it and change it myself

As a thought did your lifters start to make noise in the mornings now too. I would watch the coolant reservior and make sure that it stays at the same level. Classic intake leaking into the valley you will not see any Dex cool in the oil as it evaps in the valley but things get alittle noisier in the morning and oil pressure does a slight drop - don't panic but take a look cause it could save you the motor. Colant system pressure test helps to ID.

well i need to add coolant cause i had a bad coolant line that just got fixed at chevy. they also replaced a bad flue injector.
