A Few Questions

Question 1. What Mazda RX-7 should i get? I was thinging of a 1993 (maybe twin turbo), I want a 3rd generation RX-7, so it doesnt look old, and can make it nice looking.

Question 2. How much will I be spending on that RX-7?

Question 3. Im looking for a fast car, i beleive the 1993 does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds (stocked). How fast will that RX-7 be? (I'm a speed freak, my Mercury Tracer LTS starts to shake at 90mph. :-\)

Question 4. Once I get the car and that good stuff, what should I know about the car/ rotary engine? I heard alot about the some kind of engine problems, and I see alot of posts about "not babying your car, its not good for the engine." What is that all about?

Question 5. Is there anything else I have to keep in mind? Or what other things should the average RX-7 buyer/fan know about these cars?

PS: Sorry for all of these questions, I'm new to Import cars. Thank you in advance! :-D

1) if its your only car, i suggest the 86-91 RX-7 (the second gen). they tend to cost less in maintenance than the 3rd gens.
but if you are keeping that mercury, you might as well spring for a 3rd gen

2) lol

3)yeah its about that fast

4)engine problems concerning the early 3rd gens (aka the ones we got in the US) stemmed from mazda trying to make teh car as small and as light a package as possible. Thus the engine suffers from some cooling problems, which can be taken care of with the proper reliability mods. the whole "don't baby the car" thing? well, if you drive like a grandma everywhere, its been known that carbon can build up inside of the engine, so rx7 owners need to rev the engine to redline at least once each time it is driven.

5) its a great, fast, good looking car, but it is a high performance car and therefore a high maintenance car (which is why i suggest it as a 2nd car), upkeep will be alot (but less than other cars ie porsche)

I beleive the body panels will fall off at 92 mph on a tracer.

thank you drftk1d for your help

and mwolvin....in my tracer lts..i brought it up to 90mph...nothing is wrong with it...lol....it just starts to shack at 90 mph...lmfao

mainly the only reason i want a 3rd generation is becasue the 2nd generation is really boxy and i really think the 3rd is a sleek design...plus i really dont want a car that is older than what i have now....:-\

That's the first time I've heard anyone call the 2nd gen RX7 "boxy." it's a classic front engine GT design, and one of the better looking cars available anwhere near it's price range, IMO.

2nd gens have more agressive styling than the 3rd.

i like the looks of both equally

I prefer 3rd gen more, but its not worth the additional cost for the looks IMO.
