Just sort of an add on to my previous post, we have to do market research as part of the program, So I need to know the demographics for modelers. Please answer truthfully, this really helps me out. Feel free to add any comments too, thanks!

I voted to, even thou I am not very pleased with resoults, I mean it is good for bussiness to have "older" guys, since they "should" have more money, but without young forces we are doomed.

Ya that is an unfortunately common result in these surveys... but I suppose that's why I'm gonna try my best to encorporate youth into my store!

I think the age splits you have chosen make it look like modellers are older than may be the true. Below 25 has a total of 29 so far, 26 to 45 has 49 but thats a 20 year gap!! I dont want to offend any younger modellers but I think the below 25 could be considered a 15 year gap at most.
How many of us on here have dabbled with models in our early teens, left the hobby then maybe 10 or so years later came back??

Agreed, the way the categories are set up does lend itself to skewed results in the favor of the over-30 age set.

Tigeraid, here’s something you might just want to think about for your class- it might make more sense to tie the age groups into disposable income. This does a fairly decent job of at least attempting to define the demographics.
My interpretation- the under 18 crowd would be those that I would group as using their wages from a part time job and/or allowances. Eighteen to twenty-five would presumably be those in college/early career with a higher income level (you can just assume a number here of a guess of $30k-$40k USD). Twenty six through forty-five would be a bit harder to get insight into other than maybe a dual income yet less time for modeling (new family obligations). Ironically, these might be the folks that would be willing to spend the most on the modeling kits and supplies. Over 45… well, maybe as my skills develop, I’d have the confidence to buy more expensive kits and supplies? Makes the most sense to me as I would most likely be able to afford such ‘toys’ at a more mature age as my career and income level grows.
The numbers and assumptions are all just guesses here on my part but polls like this, from a business standpoint, is useless unless there is some thought as to what you are trying to achieve and what insights you are trying to accomplish with these numbers. This is just purely my opinion as I just find the numbers interesting. But as a business owner, you'd like to know the spending power associated with each group as well as the potential market you have with each age group. Tying the age group to income levels would be the logical thing to do and defining the age groups through income levels makes the most sense.
Maybe a revision to the age groups as a result?

Do you have to do another survey or could you just search out the last thread about ages?
Also, wouldn't this info be more relevant if you only polled the people that would be your customers, I know the thought of doing or your research from the convenience of your armchair is wonderful, but the results you get off the web aren't exectly going to reflect the real statistics for the area your store is going to be in.

I do have several other surveys, one of which will be on here, and others in person. Don't worry, the small business program is meant to teach me this sort of thing. :p

Almost 20, and I voted. I dunno if it just has to be at this board, but my dad is in the 45+ category, and he builds, and my friend Kelvin is also in the same category as I am, and he builds too.

Great, get them to register and vote :icon16: ... I'll include them in the tally if not. Thanks for the info.
