Check engine light on but NO CODES!

Hi,

Read the threads and went to two different Autozones and tried getting the codes on my 2000 Civic with 77K miles, but all I could get from the scanner was a "link error". The guy at the autozone said he had seen the same issue with a CRV.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

The car runs bad at low RPM's with hesitation and bucking.

Thanks!

maybe just a fuse

No, not just a fuse.

According to the dealer the ECM, (computer), is bad and the IACV, (Idle Air Control Valve) caused the ECM to "short-out". This makes no scense to me and I was not allowed to speak with the tech to verify how he came to this diagnosis.

The car only has 77k Miles and I am the origianal owner. If this is acceptable for Honda I will not buying one any time soon.

Did you turn the igniton to the "run" position (the spot that turns on the dash warning lights but doesn't start the car) after attaching the scanner?

I'd call the dealer asap. The computer and some other emission components should be covered by a federally mandated 80k warranty, check your warranty manuals for details. GL

Yes, myself 2 independent honda mechanics and two dealers ran the scanner with the Ignitin in the "On" Position.

One dealer said the the IACV "Shorted" out and caused the computer to go bad. They offered to conver the computer under the 80K emissions warranty but not the IACV. I asked to speak to the Tech about his diagnosis but was refused so I took it to another dealer. The other dealer replaced the computer and ran the car for a while and tested and retested with the scanner and said the IACV was NOT bad and that other dealer was probably just trying to sell me a new IACV.

I am going to complain to Honda about the first dealer.

Thanks

Strange, last year my CEL came on in my car (with code p1457). The dealer replaced a purge solinoid and two way valve for like $250. A few days later the CEL came on again and the dealer said the same thing. When the solinoid shorted out it fried part of the computer. I also had my ECU replaced under the 8year/80k warranty. All has been well since then *knocks on wood* GL
