Anyone have some ideas on how to increase power on a '94 Olds 88 at a minimil price?

Think this would do anything?

I've heard of these things. Theres another one that sits in a little sylinder and spins. Pretty much they claim it works like a super/turbo charger by compressing air. I have heard that these things dont work. Its almost worth buying one and trying it though. If anyone on here knows anything about em, let me know.

I've done some research and come up with a conclusion. They dont work.

What I used to do for a little extra boost when I went to take on the local posers is disconnect the MAF sensor. That adds a hell of a lot more HP. I'm pretty sure thats not good for the car so I stopped. Sure put those little Pontiac Grand Ams to shame though. Gotta love a street racing Olds.

run a can of seafoam through your engine

It does not work. Dont but it.
If you look further into your intake there is a MAF screen. This screen is a last resort for large particals that could get into the engine. It also makes the air flow linear. Makeing the air spin like that would be cancelled out by the screen..

maybe you could rip off the cat and run straight pipes.

i heard that add hp.

Already ripped off the cat

actually gutting the cat will cause u to lose power. it's the muffler that take the most power out of you the engine. what you should do is run straight glass packs, and build or buy some custom exhaust headers. then get a hi-flo cat. contrary to popular belief. guting the cat causes the air to slow down in the absence of the material. when the gases exit this empty space, they must speed up again. this robs you of a lot of power.

another idea is to run an exhaust dump valve that you can switch on and off(so you don't get caught by the cops)

This exhaust dump you speak of...is it cheap and easy to install? I didn't gut the cat though, its just a pipe and since the pipe was put in, theres a lot more power, enough to roast the tires pretty good.

it's pretty easy, but you need to be innovative. i would prolly cut a section out and put a butterfly valve in it's place. You would have to do it so that when the valve is open, it make the exhaust go down a dump tube. when the valve is closed, it would force the air to go through a muffler... simple in concept, but you may need to do a little improvising to get the butterfly valve to work how you need it to. if you don't wanna be creative, you can always buy one(i don't know $$$ amount) or do a little research on google.

basically you could use a Y pipe with a cap on the end or something when you press the button or pull on a handle it opens up so that the air comes right out of one side of the Y pipe while the other side that goes to the rest of the exhaust is closed off my friend did something like that on his jeep but didnt gain any power he actually lost power because of the very little ammount of backpressure.

not so much available for your year, you also have the granny trans 2.84 so it will always be on teh slow side....of course if you have $1500 you could drop a 240HP L67 in there.....bolts right up, you would need to find the whole drivetrain from a yard, PCM, harness, trans, and motor.

another ideacould be to put in a more aggressive cam... actually i don't know how well that would work with the olds 88.... neways... you could always take the belt off, and get one to bypass the ac unit or take the ac out completely, that might give you a little more power... or as a last resort you could put some cool paint on it to make it look fast...

As is, my car is anything but slow. I'd like to get times for it just see screw around and see what its doing, but I lack the resources for that. Its a pretty quick car. The only thing I've done was remove the cat and give it a good tune up.

how fast have you gone

Well, I've had it up to about 117mph. I was hoping it would push to 120 but it stops there, something to do with the computer or something. I was very dissapointed when it started to slow down. But I'd have to say that 117mph isn't to damn bad for an Olds 88.

i got mine up to 90 once, but then i went off the end of a t-section... that sucked. What really suprised me tho, is the fact that the car went down about twenty feet into a ditch at about 60 degrees or so, and hit a culvert. then i turned her around went straight up the ditch, and drove home like nothing had happened. the only damage done to the car was a pair of fog lights, and a bent up radiator.
